I got an Xbox series S over the weekend and saw the remake was on sale so I jumped at the chance to play it. I’m about halfway through chapter 3 and it’s been a fun ride so far, I don’t have any complaints really but there is just this itch I have in the back of my head to just boot up the original. I love the graphics and the environments so far plus the added enemies but the guns feel kind of off. Would love to hear your thoughts for those that have played both.
Both
The only way I would suggest the original is if you could get a GameCube
I can’t think of any reason to play the OG over the remake other than nostalgia. Pretty much every aspect is improved, and it maintains the tone of the original. Gotta be one of the best remakes I’ve played in terms of staying true to the original.
The OG was a 10 in its day.
The remake is a 10 today.
Honestly I think both are equally worth playing in their own right. Same how I feel about RE 2 original and the RE 2 Remake. Different games based on the same concepts
mind is blown seeing so many people fawn over the remake
i’ll always go OG every time. sorry! no desire to replay the new version whatsoever, have replayed OG hundreds of times and will continue to.
still loved the new version tho
Do i need to play a game before the remake to get the story?
I’m a huge RE4 fan (on GC), I would say the remake is the way forward.
They cut out quite a bit compared to the original that’s my only complaint for the remake
They did. But to be fair, the original was an incredibly dense game. It’s overwhelming trying to remember every memorable event, and the remake still kept the most iconic moments.
I think the village sequence was the closest to the original. Past the village is when they started changing and removing some shit very significantly.
As great as the remake is, I think the original is still worth playing first. Also it invented the over-the-shoulder 3rd person camera which is pretty fucking cool
