There was soo much hype and expectations for Cyberpunk that when it released and didnt deliver ppl hated it and called it trash…now its considered one of the best games ever not just because they fixed all the bugs, etc. but now ppl focus on the story and the writing and how amazingly immersive it is. You can check the steam reviews and see how amazing this game is now compared to b4.
Same thing with Starfield, hyped the crap out of it, some people were expecting a No Man Sky (idk why it’s two complete different gaming companies) and whatever other expectations. They didnt deliver and ppl consider Starfield the worst game of the year. It’s most likely going to be just like all other Bethesda games on launch, crappy at first and just like Skyrim, the best modding game for years to come.
Baulder’s Gate 3 now…i never even heard of it until it came out and ppl started talking about it…none of my friends even knew about it or what D&D is about…no Hype, no expectations… nobody expected it to do as well as it did even the devs.
SO i think game devs should ignore trying to hype their games, its a waste of money, because aside from it giving ppl wrong expectations, ppl themselves also come up with unrealistic expectations. Just focus on making a great game and ppl who love it, will love it and play it and those that dont just find another game to play. You cant please everybody and i think hype fools ppl into thinking they should like this when the game may just not be for them.

Won’t happen if you don’t hype yourself.

Also, expectations are always rewarding from consistent result oriented releases from well established devs known for their work.
