Bit of an explanation as to what prompted me to make this post: I recently played through Sniper Ghost Warrior: Contracts 1 and 2 and I just felt off. I’ve slaughtered hundreds of innocents for my amusement in games like Fallout and TES, I play through No Russian with a grin, but for some reason, I refrain from killing bad guys in SGW? The first one has you hunt down Russian oligarchs and war criminals, while the second one is about Middle Eastern terrorists and this is the game where I feel bad about killing? There’s just something about the soldiers talking about their daily problems like making no money, uncomfortable boots and sweating too much, or showing eachother pictures of their dogs, not to mention the absolute horror when you’ve got a knife against their throat or when they find a body. I hope this isn’t weird, but I’ve never experienced remorse for killing a video game enemy, and I’ve played a lot of different games. I’d like to hear about your experiences, and which games do a good job humanising common enemies, the concept intrigues me.

yeah men and wtf is up with the completely lack of consistency in tone between gameplay and cutscenes…

In cutscenes we play a hero with a heart of gold not wanting to kill anyone innocent only to mow down an entire village and hundreds of Pinkertons for Micah in th me next gameplay scene… like wtf?

Yeah for a game that seemed so focused on building the world and story, I found the gameplay totally at odds with it. I couldn’t really get into the game because pretty much all of the missions were “shoot dozens of dudes as they pour out of random places.”

I feel like people give Strauss too much flak. The guy is just trying to get money for the gang, he just does it differently. Instead of murdering or stealing, Strauss just gives out loans.

Even when he was captured, he still refused to snitch on the gang even though he doesn’t lose anything from it.

          Strauss is a true homie.

It’s incredibly realistic, The NPCs actually react when I tie them up and put them in train tracks, even the NPC couples react when you kill the wife/husband, my favourite interaction is the bounty mission where you gotta take the man who quit being a criminal and has a family, I always tie him up before letting him say his farewells and kill his wife lol.
