This might sound weird but I always like taking a handheld with me when I go to work or go out for a while in general. It helps with my anxiety knowing I can play a game to calm me down even if it’s just for like 20 minutes in the bathroom. My favorites to carry are a 3DS, switch, or vita.

My phone is a glorified Gameboy. I’ve got every emulator I can download and about a thousand games for NES/SNES, Gameboy, Sega, N64, and PlayStation. As long as I can plug in for power I am unstoppable!

If I’m expecting to be out for days or more, I’ll bring my 3DS. I might not use it, but at least I have the option. Mostly, I bring a tiny Tetris handheld with me, fits in my wallet.

If anyone has had those torturous dark days of unexpected 4 hours stranded, they would understand always carrying like a switch just in case. Even if you dont turn it on more than 20 minutes a week. Its about that one time.

No, I like handhelds but more just to play on the couch, I never really bring them anywhere unless I’m staying for a couple of days.

I bring technology on vacation in case I can’t sleep or something. I agree, it’s hard to find great mobile games, but I can’t find pocket space for a handheld or controller for emulation.

I do. Not really an anxiety thing, although I am autistic and have had handhelds on me ever since the OG Game Boy came out, maybe it’s habit, maybe it’s addiction, maybe I’m just weird, but I enjoy being able to game whenever there’s unexpected downtime or boredom. It is kind of soothing, so I can understand you.

If I know for sure I’ll wanna game and will have lots of time to kill I’ll carry a good system like my DS or 3DS. Otherwise, I’ll carry one of those super cheap chinese emulation handhelds like my 20$ Data Frog. It doesn’t run a lot of things that well except for Genesis and NES, but it’s cool to play a quick game of Streets of Rage, Shadow Dancer or something, and if it gets stolen I don’t really care. It’s always in my sling bag and I try to keep it charged.

the most hand held thing I carry around is my smartphone or ipad these days. If I’m traveling then a laptop.

My switch has some joycon drift that infuriates me to bring it with me when I travel. I used to bring my DS and GBA with me, but then I was told to watch my surrounding areas when im traveling instead of gaming.

As a remote software dev I always have to have at least 2 if not 3 devices that can be considered handhelds, but I never play games outside my home.
