I was curious to know what everyone’s favourite game trailer is be it because of the cinematography or how hyped it made you for an upcoming release.
I thought I’d focus on a few oldies (15ish years) that people may be less familiar with or have forgotten.
Dead Island: I feel like this is one of the most famous gaming trailers, absolutely nothing to do with the game but stunning none the less - https://youtu.be/lZqrG1bdGtg?feature=shared
Halo Reach: A trailer that really drives home the scale and hopelessness that Reach was trying to achieve. If the TV show looked as good and felt as raw as this I doubt there would be as much backlash - https://youtu.be/18-_9E0HNY4?feature=shared
Assasins Creed Revelations: The culmination of both a trilogy and quadilogy of games, the trailer sets up for an epic conclusion - https://youtu.be/HMsbMK9Odoc?feature=shared
Fallout 3: This served as a completely new direction to the Fallout franchise and executed a masterful reveal - https://youtu.be/zPt08UYmyMo?feature=shared
Mass Effect 2.
Cyberpunk 2077 Teaser (which released 10 years ago)
Hitman Absolution Attack of The Saints Trailer
Hitman 2015 E3 Trailer
The Witcher 2 Letho The Return of The King Slayer Trailer
Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer #3
The The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess trailer at E3 is an all-time gaming moment.
The BotW and TotK trailers are extremely good too.
DC Universe cinematic and Fall of Cybertron
If you lived in NYC, The Division trailer was like omg. Then the game came out and we were all like… uhhh this is ok I guess?
The one I’ll always remember was the Gears of War trailer that had Mad World playing
Fun fact, the director of that tv ad went on to make Oblivion, Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick
He’s also just an all around very nice guy
Anything from Kojima
it’s battlefield 1 and not even close. official release video has 7M views.
GTA V
My two favorite are the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer with “Nuclear” playing in the background and the E3 2006 Halo 3 trailer.
Dead Island was one the most incredible, gut wrenching, arresting game trailers ever made, and was also the most grossly misleading piece of bullshit ever in the history of video games.
I’ve always been a big fan of trailers where you don’t necessarily know what it’s a trailer for at first, and then there’s a huge reveal. (Assuming you’re watching it at some sort of event, and not on youtube or something where you can see the title of the trailer.)
One of the first that comes to mind in that regard is the trailer from the Game Awards revealing Joker for Smash Ultimate. You know right away it’s something Persona 5 related, but you don’t know exactly what until near the very end, where the envelope turns around and shows the smash logo.
Honestly, a lot of the smash ultimate DLC trailers are like that, but I still think Joker is one of the best.
All of MGSV trailers are rewatchable and entertaining to this day.
The Elden Ring launch trailer was good.
MK11 launch trailer was pretty good as well.
Gears of War trailers.
Halo 3- believe trailer.
God of Ragnarok Story Trailer.
Spiderman Web of Shadows trailer.
Assassin’s creed unity: https://youtu.be/xzCEdSKMkdU?si=cDvuySOq22P3-o1q
The music is an absolute banger and the whole video is just so god damn cool.
Red Dead Redemption (1): “My Name Is John Marston”

Still gives me goosebumps how amazing this looks for 2010, like an actual Sergio Leone western film turned into a game. And then they somehow exceeded expectations with it.
