The change is rolling out to organizations within the next 30 days and Microsoft 365 users will gradually be switched over to this new link-opening policy. The same change is coming to Teams, but Microsoft will announce when that happens separately.
Announced in May, but a couple weeks ago our IT desk suddenly received ~25 tickets for people complaining on it, so I guess they got randomly phased in that day with no warning or notification from MS.

Sort of like how they are slowly rolling out forcing Outlook and Teams to open links in Edge, ignoring the preference you set with your Windows operating system.
