What’s modern gaming convention that should no longer be practiced?

    Games as a service.

It used to be a novel way for a small team to make some money whilst giving them the time and resources to complete their project.

These days, it just gives massive AAA development companies with thousands of employees at their disposal the excuse to rush out an unfinished product with the intention of fixing it later. They give you barely enough to keep you engaged and drip feed content that should have been in the game from day 1 over a painfully long time.

Sometimes it works when bigger studios do it. Overwatch in 2016 was a pretty good experience, for example.

Probably the exception rather than the rule, though.

Look at Fortnite. Love it or hate it, you know they are always working on evolving the game and designing new shit. They probably have the most dedicated dev team in gaming right now

I’m so tired of numbers coming out of bad guys when I shoot them. All so that they can sell you weapons that make those numbers slightly bigger.

As beautiful as it is, the game Sky has made me much more painfully reminded of that. Their skins are also god damn expensive (wanna pay $20 for an umbrella?) and they charge like a tenner for stuff you can grind within 2 days.

Yes these californian fart smellers couldnt even keep the game properly crossplay and the game is full of bugs anyway. i thought the steady money stream is what keeps you active?? but theyre really quick at launching event after event that always has some $40 cosmetics in total, month after month
