London is home to hundreds of fish and chip shops, some better than others. But one, in particular, has been crowned London’s best by TripAdvisor yet again.

Sitting at the very top of the site’s ranking is The Golden Chippy. The Greenwich spot was opened in 2005, after Chris Kanizi arrived in London in 1977 to study medicine. He ended up an expert ‘fish surgeon’ instead, and since its opening, The Golden Chippy has become a local favourite.

Its reputation only grew after it was named London’s best restaurant on TripAdvisor in 2016, beating the likes of Claridge’s and The Ritz.

Is the Seashell of Lisson Grove still a thing? that’s where our cabbie dumped us off when we asked him for the best chippy - albeit this was 1989, so… :/

Seems 'bout right. All I remember (i was… 11) is we hopped in a black cab and asked the driver “where do YOU go for fish and chips”? and it was London black cabs double parked round the block.

Best fish n chips I’ve ever had.

If IT or The Golden Chippy are half as good as I remember, yeah I’d travel 90m for a chippy too.

Damn it, I stayed in the hotel opposite there not long ago. Always looking for good places to eat, but write it off because we thought it looked a bit run down. I forgot that those are usually the best!

How good can fish and chips get realistically? Like the difference between the best chippy in London and the best chippy within 15 minutes of your home can’t be that big surely?

I’ve eaten here a lot and the haddock is generally quite fresh, which is often not the case elsewhere.

There’s one in Exmouth that batters the chips. I’d happily travel to go there

Super common in the Black Country area of the West Midlands. It’s one of the things I miss most from my hometown.

Oh do you have the name of the place? I wouldn’t mind trying that.
