“New ways of traveling” sounds so vague… So is it going to be land vehicles on planets or better ways to fast travel or something else?
New ways of traveling:
- An interstellar bus cutscrne
- An interstellar train cutscene
- An teleportation booth cutscene
- A space shuttle UFO beam cutscene
- Resident Evil
A thruster pack that only works backwards.

It has to work in their creation engine. Probably not a land vehicle unless it functions like a horse.
If they seriously don’t add any types of ground vehicles I’m going to laugh. At that point it’ll be blatantly obvious how shitty their engine is.
It’ll be like the train in Fallout 3, i.e an NPC with a rover for a head.

The frontier mod for new vegas managed proper cars, so maybe?
Never played frontier, but saw a few videos the cars were…rather janky from what i’ve seen in the videos.
Which is probably better than what bethesda could hope to do, lol.

but on the whole, gamers are blind, greedy idiots that’ll continue to throw money at companies for their next golden turd, even while complaining about how much of a terrible ripoff the current golden turd is.
Bethesda is also switching back paid mods for Skyrim, so who knows, maybe being able to make money off modders was the idea from the very beginning.
Sure. Modders will do what they do. If all you paid for was the platform then fine. Bethesda knows who they cater to. I put over 1000 hours into skyrim over the years in some of the best fun I’ve had due to mods and content. I didn’t subscribe to Bethesda monthly plan. I bought skyrim once. No other game had that platform for a modding community. If Bethesda didn’t embrace the modding community that would be the end of them.
And yeah no excuse for selling an out of box poorly made game, but I’m optimistic that I’ll enjoy the hell out of this game once creation engine is out. I’ve already put 250 hours into it without the mods. 6/10 experience.

My main game is elite dangerous so i didn’t quite have the itch to get it. It looked great but also too great. In the end, it has a lot more story and i dont really care for that.
I really think they should’ve just focused on 1 solar system and had some procedurally generated planets outside of it. Maybe a quest line where they were colonizing one or something. They said they purposely made worlds empty to feel the loneliness of space. They could’ve done that and focused on at least 1 planet then
But they aren’t empty… All of them have points of interest and they’re all chosen from the same lot of 40 or so. Even the planet that was supposed to be abandoned because the terrormorphs took over, if you go outside the one (small) “city” all of a sudden there’s a pirate space yard fully functioning and inhabited by pirates. And the POI is as big as the supposed iced over city
Meaningless features are analogous to empty worlds.
My favorite thing was landing on moons with no atmosphere and still running into rain and thunderstorms.

Agreed, I think when everyone heard the number of planets, it’s was like eeegh I don’t think that will work.
Fwiw it might work if you flew from planet to planet, and you for example got a distress call from a random planet nearby to help settlers against mercenaries and the like. So that it happened on your way to another planet and gave you a reason to stop your ship and go down, check it out and help. and every once in a while you stumble on a unique one with story to it.
Will it get fun?
Starfield doesn’t feel unique really. There’s probably thousands of decent space games out there already, No Man’s Sky, Everspace, EVE, Elite Dangerous etc.
Like Fallout was unique and beautiful. There aren’t any other third person post apocalyptic RPGs with as much style or substance as Fallout. Sure the game is janky but it can be forgiven because the style, story and atmosphere made up for it.
However, Starfield just feels like Skyrim in space which isn’t enough of an upgrade to make things interesting. Most of the quests are just going over and back to talk to people. The NPCs feel weird and uncanny valley like, the planets are mostly boring and there are just far too many loading screens.

It would have been a lot better if it was just skyrim/fallout in space. They threw out everything that made their past games good, that they built their entire company on, and, i dont know… seems like every time they had a choice in designing starfield they just intentionally made the wrong one at every turn.
Glad they haven’t abandoned it at least , thankfully I haven’t bought it yet waiting for it to get better
Too many loading screens. Too many visible seams from the ancient Creation Engine. Game looks like it’s held together with duct tape.

I liked the game and got it for free with my cpu. I played it for about 120 hours, but when Steam asks me if I would recommend… I simply can’t. Every criticism is mostly true and I don’t think BGS is going to improve the game anytime soon.
Eh, make it cheaper. I’m still not going to buy it for that rediculous launch price. Games are almost NEVER great at launch these days. The price goes down, and the bugs go away if you just wait a bit.
Great, that’s FAR from what they need to do to this game though. I actually like the game so I’m going to be optimistic here. The number 1 biggest thing they can do to instantly improve it is change the way exploration works. Beef up the number of locations significantly, spread them out, make it so you need to ‘find’, or scan them from orbit and add unique rewards or more interesting lore to find. Next they need to totally overhaul the planets so they’re more extreme and conditions do something to you. I have never ever used a single condition clearing item in the game because there’s literally no need. Another thing would be to change the way fast travel works so you can’t just instantly go places, at the very least make fuel cost credits or something but adding actual fuel you need to get at ports or encounters along the way like solar storms or something would vastly improve it
Making a prediction now that “new ways of travel” are just going to be more fast travel points like the useless metro system on Atlantis.
the game will have people that play it, Some will love it like some people love B movies, some people will play it just to experience the jank and bad design… but I dont think it’ll ever be a good game, and I don’t think it’ll reach what Fallout/Skyrim is.
Theres just to many problems with the very core aspects of the game, and no matter what they throw at it… I don’t think anything less than a full FFXIV A Realm Reborn treatment will be able to address the critical core design flaws in the foundations of the game.
To those saying that mods will fix this game, I have no hopes for that. People don’t love this game like they do TES or fallout. Why mod for a game you don’t even like? No mods are coming to save this game. Improve? Sure. They’ll make it passable I guess.
And as a user, I’m excited to mod these games because it takes a stale 6/10 game and makes it into a new 9/10 game for me. But imagine modding a 4/10 game to get to a 7/10. Those hours of research for what? Something that you know can’t get better after you’re done. This game is dead as dead. Even to me, a patient gamer.
To all those people thinking they’ll revive this, Bethesda doesn’t work that way. It’d change their whole workflow and delay TES6 by a year or more to fix this. They don’t fix games post launch on this scale. They don’t move that fast either. They aren’t CDPR.
This game is DOA and I don’t look forward to it in my backlog. It’s disappointing but I don’t have any faith left in Bethesda. They’re scummy and a barely functional developer at this point.
I don’t know, I quite like the game. I wouldn’t rank it 4/10, more like a 7/10. I might be impartial because I love the space theme. Was never a big Skyrim fan because I am not big on fantasy.
From my point of view the game has big potential to be expanded upon and since Bethesda rarely releases games, I think they will improve it. I mean look at Fallout 76, it was in shambles and they kept working on it, sure it different since it’s a live game but still.
Don’t really get the CDPR comparisons and why they are back to being praised. They revamped the perks, added police and made some qol fixes, it’s the same shallow, not really a RPG game. Hate that people use Cyberpunk as an example, the game is already abandoned. Use No Man’s Sky if you want to make a comparison.
I was mostly going based on steam percentages. I don’t think a game below 50% on steam will have a vibrant modding community willing to fix the game.
And CDPR moves quickly compared to Bethesda and even they couldn’t finish fixing their game. CDPR also has a lot more resources prepared for this game and they have a differently mentality. Bethesda hasn’t been treating their consumer well for awhile and they don’t have the speed or resources to fix this quickly.
Basically, I have no hopes for this game being fixed. I’m sure it will be improved, but I doubt it’ll get to a 7/10 on steam or elsewhere. Im glad that you may have enjoyed it but Bethesda will likely move on.

Bethesda today is no different than the Bethesda 20 years ago.
They were just so good at making big open sandboxes to play in (and making it easy to mod them to add more) that everyone ignored Bethesda’s incompetence.
But theres nothing redeeming in Starfield that gives an excuse to overlook the bad decisions… which means a lot of people are seeing Bethesda design philosphy for the first time without rose tinted glasses.
I think of this a lot differently. Look at most open world game designs from back in those days. The PS3 open worlds were bland and repetitive. Even GTA was a lot more bland and homogenous back then.
So Bethesda games fit right in on the PS2 and PS3 era of games. But when it came time for a refresh, Fallout 4 didn’t land the same on the PS4. Was it a bad game? No. But the cracks were showing in it. Bethesda needed big changes to its gameplay and engine and they didn’t bring those in FO4. I expected they would in Starfield. But they didn’t, they changed too slowly and made a PS3 era game two generations later.
The rose tinted glasses thing, if you remember what Skyrim was back in its day then it was a really good game at the time. It’s aged okay for what it was. But if you released Skyrim 2 today, I doubt people would like it. That’s what happened here. Games are a product of their time and this one is out of its time.

Skyrim back in the day was a buggy pile of shit. Theres a reason half the mods you had to install were bugfixes.

Its decently less buggy today, but its still a rich and interesting sandbox. and more so, it has a strong foundation for mods to be built on.

Oh yeah id agree with that. The reason the heart of that game isn’t there though is because the design is stuck in the past. They’re dragging along antiquated techniques and it’s just not going to work to build the worlds the same way. Especially not with the vision they had for Starfield.
