Hey all,

I was searching for whydrs on lemmy.world and it does not show up when I search with those keywords. If I just type drs it does, but shouldn’t it appear with whydrs as well?

We were thinking of changing the URL, but it would have broken the federation and we would have had to start again from scratch. 🙁

It’s not ideal I know, having such disparate names across social. We’re just a rag tag group of DRS advocates at the end of the day, doing what we can.

No worries! By the way when I search for communities in All (instead of Local) it’s not listing all the communities from lemmy.world. Not even close to it. I also cant find communities from Kbin. Do you know why that might be? I had to make a lemmy.world account to use other communities because of that.

Honestly I’m still learning the functionality of that myself.

I have subscribed to a Lemmit community that reposts Superstonk content, and the GMECanada community on Lemmy.ca. But accessing content from those communities from this instance is still a bit tricky. It’s something I hope gets smoothed out in time as I’m not smart enough to address it myself 😅

I believe a community won’t show up in the extended network until a lemmy.world user makes a post or comment on that community on the home instance.

Similar to how only communities whynotdrs users have interacted with will natively appear in our instance search at first. Has something to do with how Lemmy instances cache each other.

I’m pretty sure it’s subscription based… When we subscribe to a community on lemmy.world it gets cached here… So if a lemmy.world account subscribed here it will start showing up in their searches and on their all feed.
