Setting up the triggers with midi should allow me to send gates to say an Erica Synth pico drum set.

I’m wondering if anyone’s given this a try and how did it work out for you? I feel like I could just play something in way faster than programming.

So yeah, anyone literally tracking in drums with your synths using midi from an electronic kit?

What got me thinking about this was watching this video from Drumeo featuring II from Sleep Token. Worth the watch if you are into drumming and percussion.

I toy with the idea because I’m a minimally-competent drummer, but I find I can program far more interesting beats than I’m capable of playing. One skill definitely complements the other in terms of understanding how beats interact with a piece of music. Rhythmic skills are always useful when sequencing. Especially if you’re live-sequencing.

The new Yamaha FGDPs look interesting for finger drumming though. I’m not into it enough to actually buy one, but I’d love to try one out.

Haha! I was auxiliary percussionist in an amateur orchestra for a few years. Claves, crash cymbals, triangles, guiro, you name it. Then, I played some drums off and on mostly just for kicks in university. My main instruments were saxophone, clarinet, and guitar. I picked up some keys while studying music because it’s mandatory. Wish I’d spent more time getting good at those, though.
