Why do people insist on the notion of “humans are terrible at predicting the future , just look at examples x,y,z”

When they fail to realize that as technology progresses we become better at predicting the future, sure it will never be guaranteed or incredibly accurate. But to say something like “humans have been expecting flying cars since the 1930s and we still don’t have them means that the singularity won’t happen for another thousand years” is so absurd to me. Am I the only one that feels this way?
