Where the fuck can I shop where I won’t be giving my money to ghouls? Ralph’s is owned by Kroger, who are basically Satan incarnate in grocery form, Vons is expensive and was up to the same anti-union shit and shirking safety standards during the covid quarantine, now Trader Joe’s is going full ancap? I don’t want to grow mushrooms and potatoes in a shack in the woods. I don’t know what I’d write a manifesto about on my electric typewriter with a misaligned “t” at all. This is bullshit.

Once you accept that there is no ethical consumption under a capitalist economy, life becomes easier and you can focus your attention and efforts on what really matters. Caring for yourself and others, and organizing to overthrow the unethical system forced upon us.

I feel like I have to add no ethical consumption under capitalist economy is not a carde blanche to go like skydive-teabagging poor people. Like you don’t have to beat yourself up over groceries but maybe keep that axiom in mind for other things

Absolutely! I guess I have internalized this so I sometimes don’t explain it well enough. Thanks.

Costco is the only one I know of that actually treats employees well and has a good business model.

Yeah I think Costco said something like “I’m disappointed they felt like they needed a union” in response to a shop organizing which in 2024 is good enough for me to buy a membership.

A co-op is even better if you can find one that isn’t too bougie. They exist in places you might expect like Vermont and California, but also places like Wisconsin.

This is bad! I don’t know the first thing about fuck about Costco but this is bad! You always need a union, your material interests don’t align and you are stronger when you organize!

Yeah every company says that when their workers try to unionize

It’s along the same lines of “we’re all family here”

“You don’t need a union, you can always come talk about your grievances to one of our friendly managers :)”

Just another mechanism to veil the class antagonism (don’t want workers getting any ideas about how they’re on one side and their boss is on another side)

Krogers sucks for a ton of reasons, but at least ONE near me is union (I think its a bland one but hey, they at least offer above 15 for starting). The self checkout peeps are also usually pretty nice, and generally don’t check if the automated fascist complains that you scanned something wrong.

Costco, bonus the white supremacy kicks in so the deals are real good there. Aldi is better than normal. They are probably just as bad but they let their cashiers sit.
