Apologies if I’m asking an easy to answer question. I seem to be having some issues with federation from other sites, particularly sopuli.xyz.
https://fedia.io/m/linux@sopuli.xyz works fine
https://fedia.io/m/fountainpens@sopuli.xyz gives a 404, but !fountainpens@sopuli.xyz is viewable directly on that site and federated at beehaw.org (beehaw.org/c/fountainpens@sopuli.xyz).
I have no idea why this is happening. Can individual communities/magazines defederate from particular sites? If not, why would I get such different results from two communities on the same server?

Dunno, but there is something weird about that group on the sopuli.xyz server.
If you look at the page
https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpensYou get a 404 even though the page
https://sopuli.xyz/c/memesWorks okay.
To see it on the sopuli site you have to look at
https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpens@sopuli.xyzLike the group is remote to the server, even though the remote host it’s on is indeed that server.
Notice that if you click the group-name from https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpens@sopuli.xyz it points to https://sopuli.xyz/c/fountainpens which is the 404.
