Maybe im misunderstanding something here, but having to centrally preregister to use an app that is intended to access an open source decentralized network is the most cucked shit i have ever seen.
When reddit killed 3rd party apps the dev asked his users what to do and we asked him to make a lemmy version. Pre-reg is so we know when it’s out and for beta testing.
I think it has to do with the way google does shit when you’re starting a beta. He didn’t want to do an unlimited beta but if you wanted a limited beta the minimum is 1000.
But why have a limited beta? If his app doesnt do any spooky centralized stuff then there shouldnt be any server load issues to deal with. Is it not just a lemmy client? It doesnt even seem to be open source!? Or does he expect to make money with the app somehow? The playstore header says “Contains ads & In-app purchases”.

Blame the googles.
