I’m not diagnosed either (because somehow you can’t have autism and ADHD at the same time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). Whether or not I do have it, the improvements made to my life by taking advice for ADHD folks have been great.

For years I’ve mused about making a meme, with two panels… first panel is a banquet with the title “How I eat the first day after shopping”, second panel is a wilted piece of lettuce on a plate titled “How I eat the other 6 days of the week”.

I just assumed I have zero impulse control, afaik I’m not ADHD… like you I have an autism diagnosis (along with bipolar II) but often wonder if I have ADHD. TBF a lot of the symptoms of a manic state are very similar to ADHD.

Inattentive: People may find paying attention, staying organized, or finishing tasks challenging.

Hyperactive-impulsive: Symptoms include restlessness, fidgeting, and talking excessively.

Combined: A combination of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types.

That’s not true! That was old school dsm speak. I was also told this lie, but it is very possible to have both. And if you have autism, you’re more likely to have adhd (but not the other way around).

Yeah I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek, because I’ve been having trouble getting a dual diagnosis while showing a lot of ADHD symptoms…like I said, maybe I don’t have ADHD but it’s really strange how everything I read about it has been so close to my personal experience.

I think there’s like a 50-70% chance that if you have autism , you also have adhd. So it’s very likely you have both, especially if you’re relating to the adhd symptoms.

I’ve noticed mine fight each other though. Like when I started treating my adhd, my autism symptoms were way more evident. But before that, my adhd symptoms were definitely more prevalent. So that made it harder for me to get both diagnoses at the same time too, and I ended up having to seek separate diagnoses from different doctors. And the adhd diagnosis was way easier to get than the autism one for me, so it may be worth seeking that one out!

Yeah, it’s funny the way the two disorders clash. I’ll give it a go seeking an ADHD diagnosis specifically. Thank you for the advice!

      What country you in?

I’m in the UK and I was diagnosed woth ASD back in Nov 2022 and just got my report on having ADHD 2 days ago. I was even told when having my ASD assessment, it is very common for someone with one of these conditions to also have the other.

Looking forward to trialing some medication. But apparently, gotta 6 month wait for that as they are so back up atm.

United States. I’m starting to think it’s time for a second psych test. Apparently they usually last multiple hours, but as I recall mine was over in one.
