Hey all. Due to a recent influx of meme related posts, we are going to be enforcing a new Meme Monday rule. Meme’s posted outside of Monday will be removed.

Thanks for understanding.

How about creating a separate sub for that kind of content? It worked well for Reddit. They have r/games for discussion and r/gaming for memes and shitposts.

Seems weird to me that a platform starved for content and engagement would limit one of its largest forms of content to only be allowed on 1 day per week. 🤷‍♂️

Matter of opinion. I would rather have an empty feed than have to scroll past all the memes I have no interest in.

Agreed. It gets to the point where if anything, it’s inhibitive to growth because people just zip right on past it before ultimately unsubscribing.

The usage of “content” and “engagement” in this post is genuinely depressing. People clearly want to have conversations and discussions, not feed an algorithm machine.

Memes tend to not be a great discussion starter. If there is an overwhelming amount of memes, interactions and discussions can easily be buried and socially discouraged as a result.

That’s fair. I spent probably 15 years on that other site lurking some really fantastic conversations in the comments, but it’s hard to find any posts here with more than a few comments. I’d much prefer active comment sections, but I’d settle for memes. I get where you’re coming from, hopefully this will help the conversations.

I blocked the user who flooded the community with shitposting, I prefer no content rather than shitty, low quality content

I left plenty of subreddits because that kind of content was rampant and it was hard to find actual quality content, because those posts were buried in shitty memes

    Thank you.

I was very close to reporting and blocking a certain user who has been spamming meme trash for the past couple of days. A little bit doesn’t bother me, but dominating the forum with it is selfish, and makes it a place I don’t want to be.

Thank you! I woke up that morning to a frontpage full of low effort memes posted by one person and felt dread that it would be allowed to continue. I ended up blocking them for safe measure, but a mod response is the best outcome I could hope for. The worst aspects of reddit subs do not need to migrate here as well. There’s nothing worse than finding a new community or magazine and finding the top content is nothing but memes. The discussions in the comment sections are what brought me here. Memes, as funny as they can be, don’t really allow discussion. They seem more of a response to any given topic, so seem better fit as a reply rather than submission on their own.

The other mods and I are regular users here as well, so we are just as committed to seeing the community here be an enjoyable place as everyone else :)

I don’t post gaming memes myself so it won’t directly affect me, but how do you count a “Monday” if taking other timezones/countries into consideration? Just curious.

Global Mondays can be defined a couple of ways:

Pick a timezone and adhere to it

Consider it to be Monday as long as it’s Monday somewhere

This is a fair question. I was just going to base it off my pst timezone, but not every mod is there. I want to say we’re all relatively close timezone wise so I don’t think it’ll be an issue, but if it is we will discuss further

Ok, worth thinking about, so thank you for doing that. I’ve just seen cases where Europeans miss out due to rules like this.
