So the idea of “buy it for life” is to buy items that are durable and last for a long time, things you could buy once and have your whole life, which can save money and be good for the environment

    that was my understanding as well but I didn’t know the why of:

    Carbon fiber can suffer from micro fractures that can’t be repaired

      Yeah. Carbon fiber on bikes is primarily for performance and racing applications. Definitely not well suited for a commuter. Personally I’m a big fan of chromoly for frame sets.

        Carbon is also more forgiving on your body than aluminum or steel since they have more flex to them. But yeah, won’t last as long as steel.
