  • Op, you should add “uniquely” to the post title. That word in the title on the infographic is important. This is not showing the most popular Halloween candy, it’s showing candy that is much more popular there than the national average.

As an example, let’s say tootsie rolls are the 30th most popular candy in the us. But in the state of Stateland, it’s the 10th most popular, which makes it Stateland’s biggest deviation from the national popularity. This makes it Stateland’s most uniquely popular candy because it is much more popular there relative to the overall us. Snickers is actually the most popular in Stateland, but tootsie rolls show up on the chart as the state’s most uniquely popular Halloween candy.

  • This is nothing new fighting pedophilia and human trafficking are the smokescreen used to enact most laws controlling the internet.

Edit to fill in what I’m implying: these laws (eg FOSTA-SESTA) are either ineffective or counterproductive in their stated goal, while simultaneously having broad add-on effects, generally harming free speech.

FOSTA-SESTA makes sex work less safe for those who are not trafficked. Meanwhile it pushes actual traffickers “underground” and off the internet, making it much harder for law enforcement to find and successfully prosecute them. Bonus: the law has been used to push sex education and general discussion of sex and sexuality off of major websites.

  • I have looked for the same in the past but didn’t buy because after researching it didn’t sound like a silicone stroker would work well. From what I saw, silicone is just not stretchy/soft enough. Because of this a 100% silicone product is not going work well unless you can get one that is the exact right size for your dick.

I didn’t look further to see if I could find anyone making silicone strokers in a variety of diameters - I suppose that could be a solution.

If you do find something that claims to be soft, stretchy, and silicone, you should do some digging to see if the mfg is trustworthy.

All that said, if anyone has a 100% silicone stroker that does work, I’d love to hear from them!

  • To add to the dating advice: try not to approach dating from the angle of “needing” to find a partner. While you should be putting your best self forward, you don’t want to try to win a girl over by acting like someone you’re not because you think she wants someone different than you. Your goal should be to meet someone who likes who you are and that you enjoy spending time with.

So yes, get some exercise! Better yourself! Try to find things you enjoy doing that make you a better person! But don’t try to become someone different than you. You will meet people that aren’t into you. You will meet people that you aren’t into. That’s totally ok and normal. It’s part of the dating process to figure out whether you two click or if you should move on and find someone else.

  • Thanks Mikey and the rest of the admins.

I have a small suggestion: number the rules on the sidebar. For me (iOS safari and iOS voyager), the rules show up as bullets. If they were numbered, when someone refers to a “rule #” violation, I wouldn’t have to count the rules to figure out which one was being violated.

    Yeah, I’m that lazy.

  • That’s all very kind of you and thank you for working to manage the effect of these communities on the instance. I think, as others have said, it’s the number of celeb-specific communities that seem to keep appearing that contribute to the “issue”, as the community blocking can feel never ending.

I agree, a “NSFW” only filter would be a wonderful addition. Hopefully it’s something we’ll see in the future. It’s worth saying again, I’m not looking for these communities to be blocked. Clearly there is a demand for them and I understand the general reason for them being on an NSFW instance.

  • I definitely agree that the lines are blurry and imperfect. You’re never going to be able to create a set of hard and fast rules that tell you what is SFW and NSFW.

In my opinion, the line should probably be more NSFW than “would you display it as a screensaver on your work computer”. Taking the term NSFW literally, your definition there is great. But I think the meaning of NSFW in communities such as this leans toward the pornographic and content guidelines should mirror that usage of “NSFW”.

A few examples of why I think the literal NSFW definition isn’t a good way to determine appropriate content for this instance:

    • a Garfield cartoon where Garfield is shouting “FUCK”
    • Racist content
    • gore/horror

I think most people agree that these things should not be shown on a work computer. But I also don’t think they are the type of content that should be hosted here. Not that I have any say over what is and is not appropriate for the instance. For all know, they did intend this instance to capture broader NSFW content than sexual/pornographic stuff.

  • Sorry for indirectly calling you out :)

I’m not advocating for banning such content, I was just curious how others feel about it. I was also hoping to see if people had ideas for good ways to manage SFW content at the instance and user level. Off the top of my head, being able to filter to only show NSFW content would be nice, but I don’t know if that is at all possible to implement.

I also appreciate your efforts to create a centralized community.
