You can certainly fall off in some genre of games. But also if you had a pause. I have had a pause of more or less 2 years from not gaming alot and right when I started up again I totally suck at most games.

When going to go for a console. I’d firstly would try to hear your kids of which console does their freinds have as there’s a chance they’ll play with friends in spare time.
Secondly if ypur kids don’t have any preference. Then figure what thay probably want to go for. Both consoles are pretty much the as for the specs and all games can look good. So it’s not the performance which separates them.

The Xbox is more focused on what the games pass has to offer. There’s a pretty huge variety of games in there.
