The golden age of streaming is already over. Peoples wallets are getting tighter these days, but the value of what we are paying for is also declining. There is a lot less on Netflix now then there was 5 years ago and the cost has gone way up. They produce their own shows but then cancel them constantly, even if they have a decent following. Netflix has been putting in effort to make their service shittier and more expensive, removing features that people originally switched from cable to get.

Netflix IS the content creator and yet giving them more money doesn’t seem to be making their content better or stop them from cancelling shows.

Not to mention, some of these streaming sites allow you to “purchase” a movie, but then when they lose licensing to those shows it gets removed from your library. So there’s no value in purchasing digital content anymore because it can get taken from you at any time. Digital ownership has become a myth.

If you want to support your favorite shows, purchase them on DVD or go see it in theater. Paying for a streaming service is only encouraging these companies to continue raising prices and reduce the value of the product you pay for.

Once your pan is seasoned it takes so little care. Just give it a fast hand wash like any non stick pan. Dish soaps used to be bad but these days they’re gentle enough to not be a problem.

To me, what is a pain is having to buy a pan every couple years. Or getting a new non stick pan and having roommates use metal on it when I specifically said not to.

The durability of cast iron makes it less fuss, imo.

When I was in warehousing, it seemed like it was the people to kissed the most ass that ended up in management, not the people that were capable. The quietly competent workers stayed in entry level positions, some of them for decades. And over time, more and more of these positions are created till you have guys that do nothing except drive to different warehouses for ‘inspections’. We’d have 3 or 4 different managers come through multiple times a year, rent a convertible to drive across the country, stay in hotels, have all meals paid, to walk into a warehouse for 15 minutes and then leave. Sometimes one would come just weeks after another. We always had to work extra hard to make sure the warehouse is spotless, and they often wouldn’t even walk around.

Meanwhile, we might get a pizza once or twice a year, and wages were capped. Ask for a raise? Can’t afford it sadly

I mean, every person who has died from cigarette related lung conditions might disagree that we’ve evolved past it. That’s just survivor bias.

But also, micro plastics can get past the blood brain barrier and as far as we know, there’s no way for our bodies to clean them out. Nano plastics are also getting imedded in lung tissue. We don’t know yet the repressions of this but I avoid buying plastic any time there is an alternative. Yes, it’s unavailable that we consume it, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to bring it into my house.

These days plastic products are sold at huge profit. It blows my mind to see a polyester shirt and a cotton shirt selling for the same price when the polyester probably cost a couple cents to produce.

People tend to project themselves on other people. We all do it, and it can be shocking to find how different people actually are from each other. I’ve heard all my life from certain Christians that people who are atheist have no moral compass and there’s nothing stopping them from killing and raping people. Which I find revealing, because they are saying their beliefs are the only thing stopping them from doing those things. I have never once wanted to rape or kill anyone, maybe that’s why it’s easy for me to not believe in god.

Trucks in America practically doubled in size within the last couple years. Expecting everything to change that quickly is ridiculous. If big trucks stick around then sure, expect infrastructure to become rated for it and also more expensive.

In the book Sapiens, a Brief History of Humankind, Yuval Noah Harari proposes that one of the problems with humans is that we lept to the top of the foodchain too quickly. Other alpha predators like lions got there by slowly evolving over millions of years, giving themselves time to adjust to their new position and giving nature time to delevope checks and balances. For example, antelope getting faster over time.

Neither we nor nature has adjusted to the new hierarchy. We are unable and unwilling to create enough checks and balances on ourselves so we rape the environment and set whole species to extinction.

When the first humans arrived in Australia almost immediately all the large mammals were wiped out. They didn’t have time to learn to fear the tiny little apes newly arrived on their shores.

An interesting point he made is that genetically we are still scavengers. The earliest tools were likely for smashing apart bones to get at the marrow, after other animals had taken their share. We still feel hunted, and it could be that a large part of anxiety and depression we see could be attributed to our insecurity at our place in the world.

If you once again look at a lion, they are full of confidence and power and all the things we expect to see in an alpha predator. Who knows how long it might take humanity to become comfortable with our place in the world. Who knows if we and the planet will be able to adapt together well enough for that to come to fruition, rather than just becoming another extinct species ourselves.

Everyone here is correct, lots of layers and wool. The only exception is cold windy days, it’s damn difficult to prepare for wind. On a -40 windy day there’s not a lot you can do. Hand warmers, or even better heated gloves can be amazing on those days for when you just can’t get your hands warm. My girlfriend uses a heated vest regularly and she loves it. I also almost always have a large thermos of hot soup or tea to sip on on break.

On stupid cold days I’ll sometimes where two wool baselayers. I find the layers rubbing generate heat and that can be lovely.

Yeah, if you are drinking a ton of water and also electrolytes and you’re still peeing constantly you need to see your doctor ASAP

Put a pinch Himalayan salt in your water. If you’re drinking a lot of water but still thirsty and peeing a lot it usually means you’re low on electrolytes.

Firefox can save passwords without an extension although there is a password manager you can add. Sign into something on Firefox and it will ask you to if you want to save your login. I’ve haven’t needed google for any reason after switching.
