I have a ton of cookbooks and I never really use any of them except the New Farm Vegetarian (it’s vegan, not vegetarian, written in the 70’s) Cookbook by Louise Hagler.

I agree. I’ve been an avid reader my entire life and the lack of ability to visualize what’s being described by words hasn’t been detrimental. Lengthy descriptions of scenery does tend to get pretty tedious though.

Brendan Perry, formerly of Dead Can Dance put out an album a couple years ago called "Songs of Disenchantment: Music from the Greek Underground " that was a bunch of old Greek folk songs. Probably not as ancient as you’re looking for, but not really modern either.
