  • thanks a lot for the useful addendum, I was writing this thinking most people who’d read it would be 100% windows + google people, so I tried suggesting what I thought was the most reasonable privacy/convenient balance, something people could move to without sacrificing much. sadly to live a free software zealot lifestyle is to make an immense amount of sacrifices that most people don’t want to or directly can’t make so I think it’s better to encourage gradual change rather than such a huge immediate migration…

The only thing I would like to add, I think revolt is free software but it’s not private because it’s not encrypted. So please be careful when using it.

also, I think it’d be useful to add some laptops that make it actually viable to run 100% free operating systems to the hardware section, since on most modern stuff it’s very common for it to not work out of the box - maybe some that support libreboot/dasharo??

  • it’s really not that bad, you can export your settings and any firefox-based browser can read them and do most of the things, the worst you’d have to do is reinstalling all your extensions

but seriously it’s like… a few hours of a single day at max, and in exchange you’ll be so much more private and secure. I recommend LibreWolf for an out-of-the-box privacy browser instead of having to customize tons of firefox settings to be truly private
