I think that’s her in her own tweet. Republicans are trying to train the masses to see “trans” as a dirty word. It’s part of the fascist program of dehumanizing their chosen victims. We know where they want this to go, and we have to be ready to fight it.

So this is what they have in store for anyone who questions their persecution of trans people. Arrested and charged with assault. We need a real mass movement in support of trans rights and healthcare. This cannot be made easy for them.

No matter what the topic, you can always count on the NYT for a shitty take. The NYT has a very distinctive flavor of editorial shittiness that’s quite hard to define but instantly recognizable. They want us to catch their carefully curated blind spots.

The only way it’s misleading is in the usual refusal to acknowledge that the police killed this innocent person. It’s always the same passive voice, as if people keep magically dropping dead when the police happen to be around.

So if you play mad libs you come up with grammatically correct sentences, and if you change all the nouns to their opposites you get something people with the opposite opinions agree with. You’re right, it proves nothing.

Let’s hope that allows many kids access to the care they need. If there’s a real concern about the safety of puberty blockers, then clinical trials are exactly what’s needed to find out. I’m not entirely convinced this is really due to medical concern though. It smells like Labour trying to out-bigot the Conservatives, just to prove they’re not lefties any more.

I think allowing a child to make a decision that may impact them for the rest of their lives is a grey area to say the least.

1. It’s not a child making the decision. It’s typically adults making the decision for the sake of the child, and based on the child’s needs. The child is involved but it’s not like the adults just go along with a childish whim. The decision is made with caution and care and expert consultation, and it is not made lightly.

2. Deciding to go ahead with puberty is also a decision that impacts a child for the rest of their life. In cases of gender dysmorphia this can cause psychological trauma that won’t just clear up, and prolong the agony by forcing the person to live into adulthood with a body that feels deeply wrong. At this point, transitioning can be more difficult because the body may already have taken on pronounced characteristics associated with the wrong gender.

And all the wrong lessons were learned:

How about the question I asked: If we continue to depend on fossil fuels, what’s the plan for mitigating the environmental disasters it causes? Sure, everyone can see that in the short term there’s an economic boost from this stuff, but the effects are already starting to bite and will only accelerate, and in the longer term it’s a massive loss. What’s the plan for dealing with that? Or is the plan just not to have a plan?
