I haven’t seen the alien franchise, but I agree with the rest.

To me, it seems to be a problem with IP (“intellectual property”). Setting IP higher should in theory advance private research and investment, while causing scarcity to the public having to rely on these services. Low IP means more equality within society, but also slower research/progress.

Personally I think that spaceflight is only at its very beginning; And it should be heavily invested and researched into. And stronger commercialization of space flight can help with that, IMO.

I think geothermal is a scam?

I remember reading somewhere that geothermic heat basically doesn’t replenish (or only does so at geological timescales), and by extracting heat from underground we’re basically depleting the underground heat reservoir, leading to shrinkage of the ground and therefore possible cracks in buildings.

TL;DR: It’s not truly renewable, but rather renewable only on geological timescales (similar to fossil fuels).

You could make the same argument about anything else.

The labor market is a market. It is regulated by supply and demand. The good being traded for money is human labor.

If supply goes down (fewer workers being born), prices go up; that means, higher wages.

If supply goes up (more workers being born), prices go down; that means, lower wages.

Fortunately population numbers are returning to sane levels, and doing so without bloodshed, famine or diseases. What a fortune.
