We watched Karl meet some gorillas in another episode of An Idiot Abroad. Next up he’s visiting Route 66. During the day I’ve been a bit too glued to Wimbledon qualifying and various other tennis matches instead of being productive.

I loved watching this match, they both played some incredible shots. Especially loved the display of sportsmanship after one particular point. Alcaraz is clearly a massive talent but de Minaur is certainly one to watch, too. I’m really enjoying seeing the rise of the new generation players.
Carlos needs to work on not being quite so obvious with his nose-touching to get his sponsorship Rolex on screen during his interviews though, lol! He did it maybe 15 times in one post-match interview, so funny.
Need to go shopping in the city. The last thing I want to do today. Would much rather go to the beach although the easiest one for us to get to (via train) is Bournemouth and last time we went there it left a lot to be desired. So the plan is to get the shopping out of the way as early as possible and then consume a lot of gin…maybe the shopping will be easier if I start the gin beforehand! Hope everyone has a nice weekend!
I love GC! Is there a Lemmy community for it? Never even thought to look.
Edit - yes there is one here on lemmy.world but it’s not very active and one that looks to be Portuguese :)
My god I can hear it now. The distant, haunting echoes of my childhood.
The donut hut is back in town now it’s summer! Been waiting for it since last year. I love me some fresh, sugared donuts. Partner has a half day so 3pm you best believe I will be stuffing my face with freshly fried goodness.
It’s not legal in the UK unless you can get it on very limited medical grounds.
Thank you for the advice! I’m so sorry that you have so much trouble with your back, that must be awful. I would definitely use a heating pad if I wasn’t already insufferably hot, lol. If the pain sticks around long-term I will be sure to try it. Main issue at the moment is sciatica.
Yes thankfully I have some Loop earbuds for sleeping, they have been invaluable. I tend to pull them out in a half-asleep state though! I’m sure I will get used to them :)
I feel this and empathise with you, we’re right near a railway line too. Living so close to a station would be a benefit, if the tains were ever running, lol.
I posted this on the Wednesday Whinge thread yesterday but it still very much applies so I’m going to moan about it again.
I slipped a disc in my spine a couple of weeks ago and my mobility is still limited and the pain is still bad. Our downstairs neighbour doesn’t seem to understand the concept of doorstops and instead he just slams his doors all day over and over again, maybe he’s pissed off at me because I stomped on the floor when he was playing loud music at midnight. On top of that there’s the bloke next door who has one of the most vile sounding smokers coughs I’ve ever heard, gets up for work at 4am and sounds like he’s wretching, lovely to be woken up by that. Plus the whole building constantly stinks of weed from another downstairs neighbour. Oh and we’re on the top floor so it’s been a million degrees. Urgh I can’t wait to not live in a block of flats anymore…but oh wait mortgage rates are fucked so no house for us yet - if ever.
Fwiw, I think these whinge / moan threads really help. I hate this archaic idea that we should just deal with everything and never talk about it. Moaning about shit is healthy, it gives you a small outlet so that you can keep functioning.
Thank you, I’ll check it out! I appreciate that there is no traditional combat, that stresses me out.
I didn’t know you could still play the oldschool game 👀 I will have to look into this, thank you!
I attempted to bat a wasp away with my flip-flop once and I missed. The wasp stung me on the palm of my hand and my flip-flop went sailing off the balcony when I let go of it in shock screaming “it’s fucking stung me!” The pain up my whole arm was not fun at all. That was the last time I tried to pick a fight with a stripy little dickhead.
I always come back to two games. Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Minecraft. But I really miss Minecraft from the alpha and beta days when it was simple. D:OS2 is possibly the best story driven, turn based RGP I’ve ever played - any recs for something similar? Over winter I tried to get into Hogwarts Legacy but I couldn’t find the motivation to progress despite growing up with and loving HP. On mobile I play Sky: Children of the Light pretty much daily and have done for almost 3 years now. Looking forward to PC release for that which was announced not long ago.
That is really sweet, what a great way for your daughter to develop an interest in nature and in turn something for you to bond over. The app looks great and it doesn’t have any stupid subscription costs - a true educational app, love that. I might even download it myself, wish I’d known about it prior to finding my little bug friends! Lol.
I hope we’re all having a good week so far. I’ve got £20 on my Nectar card after an Argos purchase, that’s definitely a win.
Other things that have made me smile this week include my peace lily putting out two bracts and finding a hoverfly larva wiggling around on my back after a walk yesterday - which I subsequently took outside to a bush. On that walk I met a lovely puppy in the park, his name was Tucker. This morning I found an affectionately named Cucmber spider in the bathroom which I also subsequently took outside to a bush. I’m sensing a theme this week! This is your reminder to look out for and appreciate the small things - unless you have arachnophobia.
omg I feel this so hard! It’s like I declutter at least once a month and it’s never enough. I always feel so overwhelmed and claustrophobic and I don’t even have that much stuff. It actually makes me feel really on edge and I sometimes even get snappy with my partner because I feel like everything is in such a mess even though realistically it’s not. I just like everything to be as tidy as possible. Visual clutter makes me feel so stressed! At this point I’m on a journey towards minimalism but living in a country with such a changeable climate means needing different clothes. So then I need to think about how to store them and swap them out multiple times a year and it’s just like…No. I don’t have the energy.
It all got too much for me after I moved house and I ended up donating almost all of my hobby / craft items and pretty much half of my clothes. Sometimes I want to get rid of everything but you know…we do need some stuff to function.
I really relate to your post! Something I found helpful was these clutter bug categories I am very much a Ladybug when I’m low on mental energy, no matter how much I want to be a Cricket. I just shove everything out of sight so that it’s surface level tidy, even though when you open a drawer its a total mess lol.
Same here, took me a bit to figure it out. Hopefully you’ll see all content now. A lot gets hidden if you don’t have both of them selected. Glad to help!
Hiya, is it your language settings? You need to go into your profile Settings, scroll down until you see Languages (not interface language). Make sure you have Undetermined AND English selected, as well as any other languages that you want to see. To select multiple languages, hold down ctrl on PC, cmd on Mac, or tick the ones you want on the list on a mobile browser. Hopefully when you’ve selected English, the rest of the posts will show up :)
Clear or white is easier for recycling :) I’m glad to see all the supermarkets making the change.
