  • Pixefed already does challenge instagram, by poaching users for its network. Likewise masto/twitter and lemmy/reddit. The product is the users and the content they generate, and thats easy to siphon from. Peertube doesnt challenge youtube/twitch though, because the product there is the big channels, and they wont jump ship without there already being a lot of users for audience, and users wont jump ship without there being lots of big channels to use. Theres a catch-22 from the very start, even with financial incentives to steer gradients
