Shoutout when people (not on here) tried to sell me on the idea of “Islamic fascism” bc saying “Islamist” made it sound like their politics where fundamentally tied to islam (despite arab speakers themselves calling them islamiyyun). Another fun bit is other white people saying “da’esh” instead of ISIL, lol (al-Dawlah al-Islāmīyah fī al-`Irāq wa al-Shām just means Islamic State in Iraq and Levante).

Our ways of naming things sucks, we can’t even get a good name for the area that falls under regional studies of what used to be “Oriental Studies”. Like, c’mon, you know the entire west is borked, just let it burn in peace, maybe we get better epistemology next time
