A man died in a kitchen mishap after accidently stabbing himself while trying to separate frozen burgers with a knife, a coroner has concluded.

It took police more than a month after Barry Griffiths died to seal off his flat in Llandrindod Wells after a post-mortem revealed that he died from a stab wound, during which time some evidence had been lost.

An inquest at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court on Monday (September 16) heard that the investigation later found that there was no evidence that anyone else was involved in the death of the 57-year-old, whose body was found on July 4, 2023 after concerns were raised that he hadn’t been seen for more than a week.

I often, stupidly, try and pry frozen meat apart like this. However, I have a range of blunt knives for such purposes.

My ex stabbed herself through the palm of her hand separating frozen burgers. Severed the tendon to her middle finger. She was a chef by profession 🙄

Nah, my cousin needed stitches after trying to separate frozen burgers with a butter knife years ago.

Put them vertical on a cutting board, and keep your hands out from underneath it.

That kind of thing - I have quite a good thick blade pointy (but not too pointy) knife for splitting apart frozen stuff like chicken breasts (although these days I tend to split a tray up into bags and freeze them) but if it’s as simple as a burger a butter knife should suffice.
