    It does - the magnetos can be turned off (usually like turning a key in a car), which will immediately stop the engine from firing.

      I mean, I felt it went without saying but apparently that guy thought helicopters were constantly running just waiting to go.

      That’s assuming a chopper with a piston engine, right? I’m pretty sure most helicopters today have turboshaft engines, they’ll run as long as there’s fuel and air.
