Gideon George Osborne on his podcast said yesterday that losing both safe seats in by-elections would be ‘armageddon’ for the Conservatives. Some rumours today of the dreaded ‘letters of no confidence’ from the 1922 committee, but I suspect there are no candidates who want to lose a general election. So could we be going for a snap election?

Sunak is bound for a revolt at the next budget. Truss and co have the knives out and have threatened to block any budget that does not facilitate tax breaks. There are varying degrees that MPs have said they will adhere to that, but it spells trouble for Sunak and Hunt. Most pundits think we are heading for an march election. This way Sunak avoids having to give a budget.

My personal opinion is that Sunak will hang on, come what may, until he gets the pay out from the India deal. The reality is that so many chickens are due to come home to roost that things are only ever set to look worse as time goes by.
