    I genuinely don’t understand why it is so hard to for ministers to say, “Yes it was racist and he has no place in the party”. What kind of hold do these people have?

      Honestly the simplest answer is the solution here:

      They are racists, elected by other racists. They genuinely see no problem with what he’s said.

        Its not even that they’re all racists (though I assume some are) its that they know their base has been radicalised and the MPs need to leave at least plausibility in their minds that they believe the same nonsense as them. A recent poll showed that 60% of tory party members belived many cities across Europe had areas implementing Sharia law that were no-go zones for white people. 60%
