Just got home after 2nd six-monthly checkup post cancer. I am happy to say that I am still cancer-free. Peter Mac Hospital in its infinite wisdom has removed all the free books for reading while waiting to see the doctor. This is a major step back. I found a couple of beauties last year while I was in treatment. Things I would never in a million years have actually spent money on, but were splendid reads. On the plus side, the new station at Parkville is just outside the door and is looking splendid and hopefully will be available for use soon. The new tram stop in Royal Parade is excellent and nearly big enough. Also the coffee in the Wellness Centre is still good but the selection of bikkies has reduced somewhat.

I was made redundant last week, which I’m still coming to terms with. But after wallowing for a week or so, today I went to the zoo and saw the baby elephants. And now I’ve opened champagne. It’s my birthday today, my (quite large) payout’s just come through, and I have an interview on Friday. I’m going to be fine.

Ah yes, happy birthday tenant, here’s a rent increase. We compared your northern suburbs 1 bedroom apartment to inner eastern suburbs two bedroom apartments and decided we deserve more money.

FUCK Real Estate Agents. I will be disputing this, or at the very least forcing the issue and making them give me air con if they want the increase. I’ve been in this flat three years and the damn thing is practically unlivable.

Day ruined. Fuck you Real Estate Agent.

Random kitty I saw on my way to work. S/he declined my offers of affectionate pats, but was happy to sit neatly and enjoy me saying nice things.

I had a dental appointment today to find out about lots of expensive work. The bad news is it will cost many $$$. The good news is it can all be spread out over a couple of years to maximize health insurance rebates. So it will take a while, but I can look forward to a future without gaps in my teeth. 😁

Ouch. Mine will be around 11k for this round. Seeing how much trouble my mother is having with her teeth and being restricted in what she can eat is extremely motivating to get it done though.

As well as going to the dentist keeping on top of regular brushing is also really important. I’ve not been good at this (it was never really pushed when I was growing up so I didn’t really develop it as a habit) and have really focussed on it more recently. Strangely enough a toothbrush tracker has been really helpful for me - just knowing it is being recorded in an app whether or not I brushed my teeth has been enough to motivate me to be much more consistent about brushing.

I’m a twice a day, floss at night person now.

Considering how much I’ve spent I want to protect my investment lol

Yeah that’s the plan. On a positive note, the hole is a bit closer to my lower back so it doesn’t currently hurt when I sit. Let’s see once the pain meds wear off.

Ah well my insurance won’t cover a nurse on call so I have to look at other options to get my dressing changed. Are there any cheap GPs or other services that could help me with this?! (Somewhere preferably closer to the city / inner SE)

Update: omg the beautiful hospital worker got back to me saying that I can’t go without the dressing so the hospital will cover the costs for the first 3 visits 😭 that’s so nice of her to do that for me!!

They really are. I remember when the anaesthetist drugged me I told the nurse I really appreciate what you do. Very corny but I really do! I also don’t remember anything that happened in the hour after that! I will take their offer for the first 3 days and probably head to a GP for the other 2. I will check if they can extend their offer to all 5 days (as they suggested changing the dressing every day for 5 days)

You should qualify for post acute care, which will supply 3 days of dressing supplies and 7 days of home visits. Following that, you can do a search and find your local HACC/PYP provider in your local government area and call them to see if they can help.

Might still be worth a call. My workplace (too far out to help you) routinely services people who don’t fit traditional funded services with low fees. We don’t like to see people not serviced.

            post acute care

Ok thanks @Eagle, I will give them a ring and find out. Actually, “The Post Acute Care (PAC) Program provides short-term services and support forthose who need extra help at home after a public hospital stay”. My stay was at a private hospital unfortunately but I can still call and find out :<

You might have more luck with the HACC/PYP services, or a GP clinic, even if you can reduce the dressing frequency to 2nd daily. It’ll probably be Bolton Clarke. They should have the ability for you to pay a fee for service, but they are a private company and can be pricey. Its worth a look though. And it’s a shame you’re not further out, we’d be happy to look after your butt crack for whatever you could afford!

Private health is a scam. I’ve had a cyst before which I was told for years was a Lipoma but then at some point it got infected.

Anyway point is I went to a GP and got it sorted. Didn’t need stitches but I did have dressing changes and apart from the gap that medicare doesn’t cover it was free.

The way I pick fruit compared to my husband is vastly different. I pick it up, put it in a bag. That will do. He carefully selects a piece, examines it, caresses it, talks to it before carefully lowering the chosen piece into a bag. I am a very patient wife.

Found out kidcalhoon2 has a kid in their class called Dante. I asked her if they were even supposed to be there. She’ll get the joke in about 20 years maybe.

Edit - I’d just like add, this was off the cuff. I think it’s my best dad-joke ever. Kids didn’t get it, partner didn’t get it, had to message it to an old friend…he got it.

With the recent community hyper-fixation on bees, I’d like to draw our attention to another issue: the lack of easy to attain quality soy sauce.

I went to KT Mart today, I was looking for two things: a sweet refreshing beverage that I didn’t know what it was until I drank it, and some decent soy sauce.

I got my beverage (Milkis), and I went looking for soy sauce. I found a small range of low-quality “cooking” soy sauce, which taste terrible, but for the life of me I couldn’t find any decent table soy sauce. There was all other kinds of sauces, terriyaki… kelp broth… dumpling dipping sauce… low sodium soy sauce… BUT WHERE WAS THE ACTUAL SOY SAUCE?!

My last purchase of soy sauce of questionable provenance was a low sodium variety from ALDI. I couldnt use it, it was disgusting, and it’s in the bin now.

I’m at a loss. Is this related to climate change?
