    Was thinking this. They have a load of players injured too. You could argue they have the depth to compete in multiple competitions.

    It’s almost like if you blindly buy a random set of players without a plan is a bad idea.

      Still, these players should be able to form a good team. In Chinese, we have an idiom: 紙上談兵, which refers to talking (military) tactics over paper, with the implication that it isn’t useful. Perhaps that’s why.

        I think it understand what you mean.

        It could also come down to mentality, tactics, club setup, amongst other things.

        Like Ozil. He had the skill and on paper you expected him to do well, but he could just be lazy and disappear in games.
