The thing is, surely if you’re a player who thinks you’re gonna be a star, you back yourself to be worth significantly more in a few years. So either these players will kick up a fuss in a few years as soon as they turn good, or they’ll be overpaid mediocre players on decade long contracts.
From their perspective, the alternative is that they will guarantee resale value I guess? Cuz if they turn out mediocre, you still get a bit of money out of them and they can’t go on a free.
Not convinced by it but we’ll see. I think the way it will be judged in future will be dependent on how well Chelsea have done their scouting tbh, as dumb as that is.
