Doe. A deer. A female deer.
White tail deer, maybe five years old. It’s called a White tail because when lifted up, the underside of the tail is completely white.
Went stomping around the bushes looking for a campsite near a lake and I found her and two companions munching grass near a road. The other two were skittish and bolted before I could get my phone pointed but this one let me get within 6-8 foot before walking into the brush slowly.

Long deer
i used to live on this ~1000 acre preserve deep in a mountain forested part of the region and white tail deer were everywhere, daily. most of them didn’t even flee anymore. i’m oafishly clomping along some cut or trail and like 2-3 of them all stop eating and just stare at me like this.
like i have made the faux pas of interrupting their exclusive luncheon of cucumber sandwiches at the members only supper club.
my real entry-into-the-wilderness was the first time an unseen deer in the woods huffed at me while i was walking in the late evening to get my mail. i had never heard the sound before and for a sec thought it was some weirdo distracting me so his friend could roll me.
