My mainstream five and the reasons I’ve picked them:

    • BRIAN BLESSED (frankly, I believe he should be in everything)
    • Craig Charles (he’s very funny and witty, plus he should be in more stuff IMHO)
    • Jeremy Clarkson (he’d cock everything up and be good comic relief)
    • Joanna Lumley (she gives off the air that she’s down for anything, and she was amazing in The Goodies’ Audible pilot)
    • Richard Ayoade (he seems an extremely good fit for the show, and reportedly wants to do it, he’s just in such high demand nowadays which is a good thing)

Sue Perkins was formerly one of my five, but she’s going to be in Series 16. :)

I also have a far-less-mainstream five: Tom Scott, Chris Joel, Gary Brannan, Matt Gray, Will Seaward. #MysteryBiscuits

I would definitely enjoy a Technical Difficulties TM series. My dream would be David Mitchell for the exact reason he’d never do it.

Edit: Also, Brian Blessed is 86! I know he’s Brian Blessed, but I still don’t think it’s a great idea to have an 86 year old doing some tasks. I felt really concerned at some points for Jenny Eclair in the last series and she’s only 63

      Tom Scott! Amazing.

Individually some good picks, but collectively they’d all be awful at any physical tasks since most of them are over a gazillion and the other one is Richard Ayoade.

You make a good point, but your lack of faith in L. A. Horne’s task-creating prowess is disappointing. :)

Fair, fair. But even with Horne’s task-setting, Jeremy and Brian would try to solve every task by shouting. Craig would try and Scouse his way through every task. Richard would try and sarcastic his way through every task. And Joanna would win every task because she’d secretly have the Gurkhas on her side.

Canadian here, so I don’t know if I know all the right celebrities… But I have two wildcard ideas that could be fun.

    Nadiya Hussain of #GBBO fame.

Certainly one episode would have a baking challenge which adds a fun juxtaposition between her and the usual comedians - but I also think she’d be up for trying new things and thinking significantly differently than many of the other contestants.

Red Green of “If your woman don’t find you handsome, she should at least find you handy” fame.

I don’t know how well Steven Smith Jr., CM (better known as Red Green) broke out of Canada. He’s our plaid-clad icon who uses duct tape if it moves and it shouldn’t, and WD40 if it doesn’t move but it should. His show ended almost 20 years ago. I think an old rural handyman would have some clever engineering tricks up his sleeve for a lot of tasks.

I just began binging the series (currently in series 7) and also I’m not that deep into UK comedians so much choice is limited. That being said I’d really like to see the test of the IT Crowd cast (Matt Berry, Chris O’Dowd, Katherine Perkinson, Chris Morris) or the Youtuber Max Fosh to participate! Also Matt Lucas or David Walliams would be really cool to see
