I’ve spent the last year learning Linux and coding, I had used windows for years and only used Ubuntu 12 for very short stints, and as for coding i was clueless, now ive a basic understanding but im getting there. Anyway thank you to all the maintainers, devs and community

Check out btop. It’s another system monitor like htop but it has a bit more info and I’ve been pretty impressed with it.

fyi “riced” is kinda racist terminology. It goes back to car culture from the 90s and always kinda made me uncomfortable even then.

I’m Asian and I don’t even know or care. It’s a well accepted word with well-intended meaning. I even use that word from time to time.

        Crackering

lol anything but that idk. It literally originates from racist stereotypes about Japanese cars and car culture though, just thought I would let you know

Just looked into the terminology, as an Asian I don’t see it as that offensive if offensive at all when used for Linux theming

might not seem that way at a glance but as someone that was into car culture in the 90s it definitely was and that’s where it carried over from.

I don’t think it carries over. Its been reclaimed and now it has connotations of pride, ricing seems to of been an insult as the cars where cheaply and tackily fitted. My desktop and many others I’d seen “riced” looked far from cheap

We literally had this whole argument play out before and I’m just standing by the fact it isn’t “reclaimed” because most of the people using it and defending it are white dudes. I am not going to criticize your use of it if you’re actually Asian but it’s not really worth trying to reclaim imo.

Surface Pro 7 owner here as well. It’s performance with Windows 10 and 11 was absolute garbage, but after I put Arch on it (along with the linux-surface packages) it absolutely flies. It’s my night time binge watching tablet now haha.

Does wvkbd work with KDE? I’ve been trying to look for an alternative to Maalit that has system and arrow keys.

Looks nice! I ran Linux on my SP3 for many years and it gave the machine an even longer life span. Only eventually sold it because 8GB of RAM was too limited if I ever wanted to run >2 JetBrains IDEs + Chrome

I’m glad that I read this comment. I have an old HP tablet running debian and I couldn’t find a useable wayland keyboard when I looked for one a few years ago.

I just installed wvkbd and I’ll be putting together a sway setup this weekend. Thanks!

Ooh, that’s nice! I’m saving that for my next linux tablet upgrade. Right now, I’m limping along with an old HP Stream 7. It satisfies the basic goal of being a functional tablet, but attaching a physical keyboard to it is an act of penance.

I use a bash script that uses swayipc to detect if keyboard is present/disconnected, the script sends signal to wvkbd to show/hide

It’s ok to not know about it, but when you are made aware about it you are then presented with a choice.

It’s up to you if you want to carry on using the term despite knowing about it’s roots.

Yo why is everyone mad about me calling drooling on the joint N-word lipping it? I didn’t know it was a slur I’m just trying to reclaim it.
