@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games I love how in modern day people avoid talking about that big “spoiler” moment in the game and this review is just like “HOLY CRAP THIS BIG SPOILER MOMENT IS GOING TO BLOW PEOPLE’S MINDS!!!”
That’s definitely the Saturn version, you can play as Maria! (Where’s our definitive Night Dive remaster of SotN!?)
But I thought “Castlevania X” was Rondo of Blood? Oh or is that… Dracula X? The international names, ugh!
@CodexArcanum@lemmy.world
It’s a bit of a mess when it comes to the naming conventions, especially since the Japanese titles were quite different.
As you might know, the Japanese titles up until a certain point were called Akumajou Dracula instead of Castlevania.
What makes it more confusing is that the game on Saturn and PSone is called Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku.
While the PC-Engine one is called Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rondo.
Making it seem like it’s a spin-off.
“It may be 2D, but–” underlines why SotN was a cult classic and not a runaway success. Late-90s gamers did not give the tiniest shit about 2D. Everything was trying to shift to 3D even though most of it suuuuhucked.

Oh I’m absolutely positive that this line was a slight towards other publications who were, let’s say, less positive about the game when it released. 😉OSSM and CVG were always big proponents of 2D games, even when 3D became all the rage.
