!politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world
Context: https://lemmy.world/c/politics
As a consequence, !asklemmy@lemmy.world mods got a lot of resentment from people wanting to discuss the elections on that community, when they decided to temporarily ban the topic as well: https://lemmy.world/post/21696356
I’m not sure what the issue is - Ask Lemmy doesn’t seem like a suitable place for political discussion, especially as there is a community just for that purpose.
I don’t see it either, but some users literally called the rule “censorship”
These people really make the liberal left look bad. And the claim is always that we’re level headed :/
There isn’t, is the point of the meme. Until now at least. Politics doesn’t allow general discussion via self posts.
The politics community always had those rules though.
The rule on asklemmy is weird though. I was surprised to see it.
“We’ve always done it this way” is obviously a super thoughtful response which completely justifies this and any other situation where it can be stated.

Interesting, I wasn’t aware. There seems like there were still megathread discussions: https://old.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/1e8sabh/megathread_president_biden_announces_that_he_will/
Wait. I’m confused now. Is your original post you talking about /r/politics on reddit or /c/politics on lemmy.world?
I thought you were speaking about politics communities in general, be it Lemmy or Reddit.
If you were focusing on !politics@lemmy.world, then that’s what the point the meme is making: due to the exceptional circumstances, they could have allowed self-posts. Or maybe just created a megathread.
If you look at the modlog, there are plenty of self posts which got removed: https://lemmy.world/modlog/1252?page=1&actionType=ModRemovePost
Hopefully people will find !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world to repost those there
No I was talking about !politics@lemmy.world and there rule not allowing self posts, but I see where you’re coming from.
Yeah I agree, a mega-thread would have been a good idea. That being said things are heated now and it could be simply because they don’t want to deal with all the nasty comments that are bound to pop up. !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world is a good alternative. It’s small enough where the trolls won’t bother, for the most part.
