There is no evidence this is an official donation fund
Just FYI give send go is a Christian fund raising site that supports January 6th rioters, and it sounds like they are going to use the donation money for other cases. I disputed the charge on my card and got it refunded after I learned that
As per this reddit post, just FYI:
His full name is registered with the state of PA as: LUIGI MANGIONE.
Inmate Number QQ7787.
Currently at SCI Huntingdon (yes HUNTINGDON)
Address for mail: LUIGI MANGIONE, QQ7787, SCI Huntingdon, PO Box 33028, St Petersburg, FL, 33733
All mail is scanned by a third-party and then a copy is provided to them, so don’t even think about sending something “extra”.
To send money (everyone needs money in jail, even $10 goes a long way) you have to go through JPay. And again, need to use his name, LUIGI MANGIONE, and inmate number QQ7787
DOB is 05/06/1998
If anyone that’s done time recently in PA sees something is missing in this info, please leave a comment.
It is really weird that it’s a florida address for a PA prison.
It is weird, but that’s the “third party company” that scans the mail and sends a copy.
Florida doesn’t have income tax, which is why a lot of companies (including for profit prisons) register in Florida
That would make sense
That’s the address on the PA DOC website. https://www.pa.gov/agencies/cor/state-prisons/sci-huntingdon.html . Makes sense, since all the mail is scanned and probably printed out for him. It’s much harder to smuggle anything in that way.
I’m not certain his PA jail funds will transfer to NY if/when he gets extradited. I know there was an issue with transferring my brother’s commissary funds when he moved jails, and that was within the same state.
May sixth or June fifth?
This is presumably in 'Murican units, so May sixth.
I’m pretty sure the lawyer said he wasn’t interested in accepting donations. I’d be wary of scams. Just be careful.
So, $130M donated to Trump’s legal defense fund. $55K to Luigi’s.
It’s sitting just under $90k last I checked.
Still horseshit as you’re pointing out though.
The thing holding back these donation funds is verification that they’re actually for Mangione’s defense. “The December 4th Legal Committee” could just be a scam.
Yeah, I’m holding off on donations until his public defender gives an official place to donate.
He is a hired attorney.
I’ve never heard of “GiveSendGo”, and who is
d4legalcomm@gmail.com
(the email address listed on the GiveSendGo page)? The fact that it’s some random Gmail is kinda sketchy. Are we sure this is legit?Wikipedia explains who they are very well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GiveSendGo
GiveSendGo is a Christian crowdfunding website.[5] GiveSendGo has attracted controversy for allowing far-right extremists to fundraise, including neo-Nazis, white supremacists and hate groups.[15]
They have also had multiple security breaches.
Unfortunately probably the only such site that might host such a fundraiser
I get what you mean there. I hope they have improved their security since then.
PayPal suspended payments to GiveSendGo because it was raising funds for people who had participated in the 2021 United States Capitol attack
oh… oh no.
Yikes
It’s probably not legit, which is why I’m holding off until his public defender gives official information about any potential donations.
If it’s probably not legit, why did you post it?
Because the fact that this knock off gofundme exploded so quick is itself news.
No. In an interview the attorney seemed to not be interested in accepting donations.
Think I’ll be put on a list of I donate?
Yes, you’ll be put on the list of donors. But also it may not be a legitimate donation fund.
I meant a government watch list lol. And I don’t plan on donating until an official one is announced.
You’re already on the government watch list
Lemmy is the government watch list.
Lemmy is the government watch list.
I’m already on a list that’s why I had to beef up my privacy.
let’s get another two or three adjustments going while he’s locked up
On what platform?
Edit: its some site called GiveSendGo
That’s it??
The article is from yesterday, and slightly updated.
It looks like it’s now up to $83k
For how hard fundraising for Luigi has been suppressed, I’m shocked it even got this far at all.
I feel like it could be at $100M overnight with the right advertising…
The trial hasn’t even been scheduled as far as I’m aware. By the time it rolls around that fund is going to be much bigger.
PA said they will hold off on prosecuting their charges until after the NY charges are completed. I would be surprised to see a trial within the next year.
I never heard of that place before and I hope a lot of people were not too knee-jerk about it. It wasn’t like, “official” in any sense that I could see.
He 100% needs a better lawyer…
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U0Jav3T2K00
The one he has now is probably just the only lawyer in Altoona.
Really? Dude seems like a pro to me.
He has 30+ years of criminal defense experience, and clearly has some media training (which let’s face it, that’s going to be critical in this case in particular).
The guy has even successfully appealed the PA supreme court. What more are you looking for in a defense lawyer, exactly?
Yeah from that video and the one later he seems to know his stuff. Using “put yourself in Luigi’s position” is the perfect answer to avoid leaking sensitive info about your discussions with your client that the media are constantly prodding for, while still evoking sympathy for the defendant.
and clearly has some media training
I admit I haven’t watched the entire press conference…
But I think our standards have been drastically lowered by the last election if the dude in that video qualifies as “clearly having some media training”.
I found this
But it’s like I said, he’s a small time lawyer.
The most noteworthy case in that article was a robbery turned double murder where the defendant is clearly guilty. I didn’t see anything about appealing the PA SC, but whether or not that’s impressive is highly dependent on the exact case. And it’s not as rare as you seem to think it is.
I’m not saying he’s a bad lawyer.
Just that he’s not the caliber lawyer Luigi needs when the full force of the government is going to come down on him.
He seems like a pretty good lawyer to me. A lot of non-answers. No speculation or sensationalism. He’s controlling the conversation rather than letting the reporters derail it. Any particular reason you think he’s bad?
Well, first off the murder charges are NY and this guy’s has only practiced in PA, so it’s a safe assumption he hasn’t passed the NY bar…
There’s other reasons, but the fact that this guy literally can only fight the extradition and gun charges.
I feel like it’s a safe bet that Luigi will need another lawyer
Yeah for sure they’ll bring on another lawyer that’s accredited in New York once needed, but that doesn’t mean this lawyer is a bad one.
With the money and resources the government is throwing at this, the five best Lawyers in Altoona wouldn’t be good enough.
Altoona’s metro area is 1/20th of Philly, and an even tinier percentage of Pittsburgh.
This guy is literally just a small town local lawyer.
The lawyers at his firm are: himself
He isn’t a defense attorney, he does worker comp and divorces too.
I’m not saying he’s terrible, it’s like grabbing the most middle of the road highschool basketball player and throwing him in a NBA Dunk contest and asking why people are saying he won’t perform well.
They’re not saying he’s a bad HS player, they’re saying he is completely out of his league.
For a local extradition hearing it’s probably better to use a local lawyer that knows the judge. Once he gets tried in New York he’ll probably hire someone else.
It’s not like the extradition hearing is the venue to put up the biggest fight given how much evidence there is.
He will 100% need a new lawyer, probably an entire team to be honest. And his public defender can help with that.
He needs an entire legal team.
Wow some of those reporters are in for blood.
Also: Saul Goodman vibes.
Saul Goodman vibes.
Exactly
Idk, joking around and feeling relatable are pretty good strategies for making a jury feel more sympathetic to the defense. And as other people have said with how high profile this case being calm and good on camera is important. So far I’ve thought he seemed great.
Also, there’s basically no chance he successfully blocks extradition. This is just a delaying action to have more time as a story. Being able to handle media well is probably his primary requirement.
I’ll donate to his cause!
Just be careful of this particular one, it isn’t an official one.
Yep, just waiting on a official announcement.
With as advertised as this one is, it would be very difficult for someone to just run away with that money. If there ever is an official one I’m sure the funds would be transferred. But of course we will find out
Lock him up and throw away the key. And, f yo downvotes.
Even if it is the right guy, nah.
This is explicitly what the 2A is meant for, to deal with tyranny.
Tyranny?
tyranny ˈtɪr(ə)ni
noun
- cruel and oppressive government or rule.
- a state under cruel and oppressive government.
- cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of power or control.
- (especially in ancient Greece) rule by one who has absolute power without legal right.
You must know health insurance has a contract with pages of what is covered what is not. But cool, jump on the popular bandwagon for upvotes.
A contract you’re basically forced to accept? lol
Yeah, and King George III had all sorts of shit written down that people in governing roles agreed to. People under tyranny were pretty upset and tried diplomacy back then as well. Violence is what eventually solved it, and the people that went through that wanted to make sure violence was always an option, hence the 2nd amendment. Anyone, Republican or Democrat, that says otherwise is just wrong.
It’s akin to saying one can always choose a different power company if they don’t like the terms. Most people get the health insurance through an employer. The choices you get are minimal if any.
Unless you’re suggesting the best way to avoid conflict is just don’t get sick. Which is another level of wow.
I don’t think recalling 15 pages of legal jargon is on someone’s mind when they need emergency medical care. But hey, they totally deserved it for taking an ambulance instead of driving themselves to the nearest in-network hospital 90 minutes away /s

I have been called a bootlicker for saying I think he probably killed Thompson. This is what actual bootlicking looks like
And killing Thompson is the whole reason people elevate him. If Luigi Mangione is actually just some random dude getting his McD’s after working on his fan-fiction manifesto and printing out copycat fake IDs for lols, then the story isn’t really about Luigi.
Absolutely. He’s a fucking hero, and I don’t care what people think about that.
Wow
Why?
It’s called murder
It’s naaaame is Sony, and it’s my turn with the sex box.
Not till he’s proven guilty in a court of law it isn’t.
Murder?
Bueller?
lemmy.world, proving once again it’s just a hive of liberals
Hey, don’t lump people like me together with the bootlickers. Being a massive instance, you’ll see a lot more stupid views coming from .world overall, but it’s not representative of the userbase like with lemmygrad or the other political instances
you may be an exception, but liberalism is absolutely representative of the user base.
So poor people are donating to a guy that comes from extreme wealth and privilege?
Make it make sense.
I’ll get behind anyone who helps clean out the boardrooms.
Faith.
Same reason I don’t cite poor farmers giving to Trump’s presidency.
Faith in an idea is a powerful motive. The poorer you are the more you rely on faith rather ability and/or resources. Literally take a political science 101 class. Belief that something is right or true is like 99% of how organized humanity works.
You fuckers do the same with trump
a hero*
Just hopefully not an hero
Universalmonk’s new alt
I can believe it
why does he need a defense fund? He’s going to be defended either way.
if they convict him, which they probably will based on DNA and overwhelming evidence, and send him to jail. would he need to pay his lawyers back for their time?
A team of lawyers is going to be much better for him than a single public defender ever can do.
As of right now we have no solid understanding of what evidence there is against him, because the cops could be saying anything they like.
He doesn’t have a public defender. His attorney is not a public defender.
It must be nice to have so much money and privilege that you can afford a team of lawyers.
In the US, you need to pay a lot of money to not be found guilty
They might be able to prove in court he’s guilty. Convicting is a different story.
Did he give a sperm sample or something at the crime seen? What DNA?
And public defenders though they are as skilled as any attorney are very much overworked in many places. Private counsel can offer more attention to the details of a case and spend time researching potentially novel theories to defend their client.
They can sample DNA now if you’ve simply been in the area. They can sample it off the backpack he discarded in the park. They can sample it off the shell casings. They have his movement across many cameras.
Remember, they only have to prove “beyond a reasonable doubt”.
I think lemmy users need to get their head out of their asses with the “we really don’t know if he did it” thing. As much as anyone might think the crime was justified, the evidence is pretty solid. And with such an emotional newsworthy case, they’re not going to bring it to trial unless the evidence is beyond reproach.
They also said they have fingerprints from a water bottle. If that’s true, they can probably get DNA from that. If they actually need DNA.
