Job hunting is so fucking demoralizing.

Dodged a bullet in the sense that I’m sure it’s a shit company, but right now, I just need a job that pays more than £29,000 a year so I can get a family visa for my wife and daughter. Any job. I will worry about a good job later. I even held my nose and applied for a job at Phillip-Morris.

I have what I have been told multiple times is a very impressive CV, but so far, no luck. I have about two months’ worth of savings to find a job.

      Good luck.

When I joined the workforce full time a good number of years ago. I was chuffed to fuck to be earning £20k a year at the time. In the intervening years, the cost of living has gotten ludicrous.

In metropolitan areas, I’m not quite sure how anyone but the DINKys can cope with the financial pressures of city living.

I’m referring to the queer genocide that Trump is going to start any time now.

I’m sure someone will chime in and tell me that won’t happen.

Holy shit man you moved your family across the planet because you think that is going to happen?

I admire your courage but you should have tried opening up your news source bubble first.

                Yep, that’s what I thought.

You might want to look at Project 2025.

Or just listen to virtually everything Republicans say about queer people.

And even if she doesn’t get put in a camp, I want her to be able to do things like get married if she wants to. Considering states are asking SCOTUS to revisit that ruling, and the makeup of SCOTUS, she’s never going to be able to do that in America.

You are, I am guessing, not queer. You are safe. Get out of your bubble and talk to queer Americans because I think you might be surprised (or maybe you don’t give a shit).

Edit: Oh look, a bunch of right-wing homophobic downvoters.

I’ve been searching on Project 25 for about 45 minutes now. I haven’t been able to find anyone who both (a) summarizes the document and (b) provides citations in the form of page numbers for their claims about what it says.

I’m tempted to just read the whole thing and then publish my own summary.

But until I do that, I’m in the dark about what it says. According to ChatGPT,

Project 2025 proposes removing protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and enforcing a binary definition of gender.

Nothing about making gay marriage illegal, nor anything about rounding queer people into camps. But ChatGPT could be wrong. I don’t know.

What have you read about Project 2025? Did you save the links of things you read about it? Can you link me to whatever convinced you of this?

                  Not really.

You make some points I agree with, you make some points I’m neutral on, and you make some points I disagree with.

In nearly all cases though, you appear to take an insular view which comes across as confrontational and adds little to the discussion but a sour taste.

It’s pointless discussing a topic with you when you either take a deep rooted view with no opportunity for open discussion, and/or take a childish “I told you so” position when hearing a dissenting view.

That’s likely why you are getting downvotes. Other views may apply.

FlyingSquid, I respect you as a member of this community. I’ve mostly enjoyed our interactions here over the last couple of years since I joined. I love your no context comics community. I respect your opinion.

I know you’re under enormous stress right now, having just moved your family to another country.

My intention is not to attack you here. My intention is to help you see the truth so that you can make solid, well-founded decisions for your family.

That’s why I ask for citations on your beliefs: to challenge what I think might be unfounded conclusions. This is a very high-stakes game, because it has inspired you to uproot your family across the globe.

I want the truth for both of us. If my political party has done something to make this country inhospitable for you or your daughter, I want to know so that I can work within my party to end whatever it is has sent you on the run.

If it hasn’t, then I want to make that clear so you don’t have to feel that there’s fire at your back when there isn’t.

I want what’s best for you and your family. I don’t want you to be a political refugee. I don’t want my country to be the kind of place that produces political refugees.

The only advise I can give you is make a people network for yourself. Make connections everywhere since life is more about who you know than what you know.

Your best bet is to go through companies that are interesting relevant and find someone who is a hiring manager or has something in common with you. Once you find them, send them a nice LinkedIn message explaining how much you love the company/product/culture and if they are interested in having a coffee chat.

Basically, you gotta get past the gate keepers (recruiters) and you’ll find things open up. Most recruiters are fucking shit (especially at mega corps) and are just looking to check boxes. Go around them.

Source: I’m a tech recruiter whose moved from America (at the start of trump’s first term) to multiple European countries without a plan in place.

P.s. have a look at the Netherlands, there’s a lot of need for talent and quite a few companies will sponsor if you meet the income reqs.

I wouldn’t even know how to find such people, unfortunately. Most hiring managers know nothing at all about media production. Some of the job ads are hilarious. The ones that expect me to edit with Capcut and do graphics with Canva are the worst. I apply for them anyway, but these people have no idea.
