'90s were afraid of terrorists too. There were a few big bombings and even plane hijackings that occurred before 9-11.

In the early 90s Rodney King was beaten and there were massive riots in LA. Then there was Waco and the Branch Davidians.

There was also the first Iraq war, the first WTC bombing, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Olympics bombing, and ongoing IRA bombings.

There was the ongoing terror of AIDS, plus mad cow disease in the UK.

Overseas, there was the Rwandan genocide, the Yugoslav wars, the Somalian civil war,

Finally there was the Jonesboro and Columbine school shootings to cap off the decade.

So, genocides, bombings, terrifying diseases and school shootings. Not quite as peaceful as advertised.

Since this comic is about societal fears, there was also the Satanic Panic

The world was becoming more peaceful and more democratic. Fewer people went hungry. Many countries made the jump from poor to middle income. All in all, the world was a better place than it is today, but the most important thing was the optimism that things could actually get better. But then people in the US had enough of being reasonable and voted for Dubya.

The world is still becoming more peaceful and democratic, even if it is becoming less democratic in the US. Africa is much more peaceful and democratic than it has ever been. Asia is also far more peaceful and democratic than it was post WWII. Far fewer people are going hungry today than in the 90s. Just because the US is sliding into chaos doesn’t mean it’s the same everywhere.

Plus grunge and an excellent decade for metal and, to a lesser degree, rock. One of the worst for pop music, though 🤷

The less said about 90s fashion the better, though 😄

90s low rise jeans, pockets or not with hip bones on display is what made me know I was straight. Exposed midriffs and back dimples were all the rave there for a good bit.

Edit: I think low rise denim skirts were big around that time as well, I have no complaints about late 90s fashion

        And RAVES!

Though the mid-00s to the mid-2010s had bette music (other than most dubstep, sorry dubstep-lovers)

Agree COMPLETELY on dubstep, but with a few exceptions like System of a Down and Korn, 00s and 2010s music was not anywhere near as good as 90s jams.

If I never hear some lame white rapper with mountains of unearned confidence and delusions of profundity in a metal song again, it’ll be too soon 😄

Opeth was my #1 both in the 90s and 00s! System of a Down was stellar.

I was a metalhead and hated rap in the 00s, but now that I’m old, I recognize that the 00s had some INCREDIBLE rappers… UGK the GOAT (rest in peace, young Pimp C…), clipse, Lil Wayne (the pun king, so many puns), Jedi Mind Tricks.

Not to mention the anticon collective, doseone is also extremely GOAT (I urge anyone reading this to check out “Less is Orchestra” with doseone and the late great Alias. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time!) 13&God, Subtle, Why?… Some of my favorite music came out in the 00s.

            (Sorry for the rant hahaha)

Is it bad that they’ve been slowly slipping for metaphorical to physical?

I really hope this trend pulls through. Tbh, it’s my main reasoning for keeping calm about the whole situation.

Hopefully in 20 years we can look back and say that the 2020’s were a crazy time. And not that mechaTrump is living in his nuclear bunker after he caused the world to nuke itself over some mexican immigrants or some shit like that. Would be nice 😁

Yeah, I’m also hoping for that.

But there’s the other view, that says the decade(s) of relative calmness we had are the exception, and we are going back to “normal” now
