Just one more day to get through before the weekend. Keeping a low profile, or have a full day of meetings?
What are you looking forward to doing at the weekend?
Lunch out today, as is my Friday tradition. Then I’m gonna be staying off Lemmy over the weekend to let the initial inrush of new users wash over us. Mad kudos to people who’re gonna be here to help guide the masses on day one. :)
I’ve got my list of answers from last time to copy paste at everyone asking the same thing over and over again lol
Typical Friday:
2 Pints of Stella
Packet of Scamp Fries
2 Pints of Stella
Bucket of jellied eels
2 Pints of Stella
Fight barman and anybody else that wants some!
Finish off with 2 Pints of StellaThen I have to head to work for my evening shift as a Reddit Mod
Fish and a ricecake
Gotta keep it sensible before work, I respect your self control
Met our new neighbours yesterday and we’re very happy to discover that they seem cool and also are quite young, which is a rarity in these parts. Trying not to get my hopes up about potentially making new friends, but hey you never know.
Of course since they’ve just moved in, they’ve already warned us there’ll be a fair amount of DIY noise (no problem with that, moving house is lots of work and they don’t do it too early or late) and I suspect that will ramp up at the weekend so we’re planning a trip out somewhere quiet with a picnic instead of just loafing indoors like we usually do.
Less socially awkward lemmings and kbinauts of UKCasual, tell me, is it weird to maybe invite new neighbours round for a cup of tea or something and get to know them a bit? Is that friendly or creepy? I honestly can’t tell.
It’s not creepy or anything, but personally I’d prefer a more relaxed vibe like a bbq or a couple of evening drinks. Just make sure the invite is super casual, like “hey it’d be great to get to know you guys over a tea or coffee whenever you’ve settled” and then invite them again in 2-3 weeks or something.
My thought was that I didn’t want to just assume they drink, and also a bbq seems way more effort and therefore more pressure, but yeah I think you’re right about framing it as a “when you’re settled” thing, thanks.
I’m just overexcited cos I’ve lived here for ten years and managed to get to know like one person in the entire town outside of my partner’s family 😅
I can’t think of an occasion where it would be socially wrong to invite someone round for a cup of tea - but don’t ask me since I’m not not socially awkward.
My old neighbour tells me that the person who moved into our previous house has been known to chase neighbours down the street to insist they come in for a cup of tea. So I think there is a line here where it can become socially awkward.
Aaah g’wan. ☕
Tea is something that should be freely offered and freely refused.
As long as your neighbour/you are not Hyacinth Bucket I’m sure it’d be quite welcome.
I have a day full of a single meeting. There is an outside chance that it will be quite interesting, but I fear that it’ll probably just be a frustrating slog.
Tomorrow I will be fixing my Plex and Calibre server, which won’t currently boot. I don’t think that I have lost any data/media, which are all on external drives, but may need to swap the system drive out and re-install. Until them we are living like savages, huddled around a single hard drive plugged straight into the TV.
I hope your mega-meeting is at least mildly interesting!
I normally work weekends, but I have this one off. I got a gift voucher for hobbycraft, so I’ll go there and treat myself to something. Then I’ll just enjoy not being at work!
No meetings for me, got a rare day off looking forward to the weekend. Excited to see the new Lemmy users flood in, the more the merrier
I’ll be collecting food scraps for the birds that visit my yard, maybe taking a trip to take a break from where I live, some grocery shopping, and hopefully catch up on some sleep if I can.
What kind of stuff do you put out for them?
I have so many different birds living in my garden, yet the pigeons ravage any birdseed I put out
Ah, sorry if I seemed snappy. I replied when all of my Lemmy apps were glitching and I was getting cranky.
In my experience, pigeons will ravage just about anything. They’re like the goats of the bird world.
I provide a variety of foods, and spread them out so different birds can eat different things.
Birthday tomorrow—of to that there London to see Groundhog Day. Again.
Working this weekend, as with most weekends. It’s not so bad as I finish at 1400. Hopefully get home to an empty house and have a powernap. It’s the simple things.
I only have one meeting at 10 thank goodness. Then it’s on with the Do Not Disturb so I can do all the work I wanted to do when I was in the office yesterday but couldn’t because people kept talking to me.
Got a barbecue for a friend’s birthday on Sunday and the F1 is on, so should be a decent weekend. Got my tip visit booked for tomorrow too!
Few meetings in the morning then I’ve blocked out the afternoon to actually get some stuff done. Then it’s pizza time.
Might try and sneak a run in at some point, as it’s a bit cooler with a nice breeze.
Failed to get general sale Foo Fighters tickets for Cardiff, which is fine. Already bought presale tickets for Manchester but its a much longer drive. Ah well, will just have to stay overnight instead. Anyone else get tickets?
I love the Foo Fighters, but £100 per ticket? That’s extortionate.
I’m gonna pass this time around. 🙁
My wife and I got tickets to their Edinburgh show years ago and then Dave went and broke his leg. Still bitter about that!
Yeah I had tickets to Wembley on that tour. Then they reorganised that gig to one in my home town which was incredible.
Talk about lucking out! Although the idea of Foo Fighters rocking up to Ayrshire has me tickled. To be fair Oasis did olay a few towns over, in Irvine!
It was £170 for two in Manchester. Was cheaper than I was expecting, plus they’re not going to be playing forever or go down in price. I’d rather spend the money over always regretting not seeing them.
That’s fair enough. I’ve seen them 4 times now, including the Taylor Hawkins tribute show.

I accidentally bought pre-sale for the wrong London show and forgot to try for the other one in the general sale this morning. So I’m going to miss Wet Leg supporting them.
On the plus side, it’s a Saturday so no work the next day I guess. And I get to wear my Churnups t-shirt.
Skiving all day. Got a massive council tax bill through the door so need to get that sorted before three start arresting my wages again.
Just found out that FF16 is ps5 timed exclusive as well, so that’s fucken baws.
Got a jug of Pimms at my side cos Tesco are selling bottles with £10 off for clubcard holders. Rammed it with ice, chopped oranges, lemons, limes, strawberries and mint and am about to go and sit on the front step and smoke and drink.
Wow. Friday is here and my list of things to do is getting smaller. Just the one thing scheduled in the calendar meeting wise, but when I got in this morning there has been a massive failure at one location that I have to deal with as top priority.
Put everything in place and all of a sudden I’m hit with the sleepies as a result of our coffee beans running out and there not being enough for my normal IV drip of coffee that would last me the day.
On Sunday I’ve made a plan to do a bunch of snacky cooking while my wife takes the son to the park for a few ours. By the time they’re back I’m hoping to have a smorgasboard of delights for us to kill off the evening with a movie. Maybe OG Space Jam? Other suggestions appropriate for a 3-4 year old are welcome.
I’ve a two year old who isn’t really up to whole films yet, but she really vibed with the 2015 Peanuts movie. It’s a series of vignettes as much as a whole story, so her attention span wasn’t too tested and she could do some colouring or whatever and not miss out.
