Does this community allow posts that are about fantasy maps or is this place just for real maps? Would be a shame to only allow real-life maps.

In my opinion the community is intended for real-world maps. Communities like !mapmaking@lemmy.world and !battlemaps@lemmy.world might be a better fit for fantasy maps.

Though I don’t mean to be a heavy-handed dictator. If you have something to share that you think the community might like, go ahead and post it. We’ll see what people think via the comments and votes. If people here want to see fantasy maps then that’s fine with me.

I don’t see any rules against it. Personally I’d rather a fantastic fictitious map than a crappy real one.

I’m not overly active on here, but if this came to a vote I’d go with Yes, it should allow for fantasy maps.

Maybe I’m just a guy with hardly any imagination, but I like this community to see spatial trends, historical map information, and stuff like that. Maps of some fantasy something-or-other with no relation to the world I live in doesn’t really interest me.

The Lemmyverse needs a “worldbuilding” place. On the-place-we-don’t-name there was a great community with that topic.

The rules don’t say, but I’d vote for yes. Also, the subreddit version allows them, so I’d take my cue from there.

Perhaps fictional sources should be mainstream enough to have a Wikipedia page (unless the map’s too good not to share).
