Let’s use this thread to share ideas about the sidebar content: I think content guidelines are helpful, so I suggest:
Let’s aim for a unique community experience. Suggest we encourage discussions and contributions that go beyond mainstream news; let’s not simply mirror the BBC science news section.
Embrace the UK perspective. While it’s not essential, we should encourage posts and discussions that highlight the UK perspective and interests in science. This can include UK-based research, events, or scientific achievements.
Adopt the Bill & Ted rule: be excellent to each other!

Thanks for creating this community. I’d prefer an open discussion of science rather than pushing the UK perspective too hard. But I’m interested to see how this will organically work out.

My thoughts for submissions would be:
- Try to use good root sources when posting content.
It doesn’t have to be a link to nature, but articles linked should trace back to valid sources. - Might be worth thinking about level of accessibility we want to go for. Some people would be happy with dry papers, others might prefer New-Scientist level, and others might want Guardian/BBC summaries of things.
I think these are great points.
The thing I’d probably enforce is “no paywalls” with regards to sources, but yes, let’s aim for a balanced approach where the content is informative yet not overly editorialised, allowing for a good mix between accessibility and trustworthiness.
I’m open about content; I think we’re all invested in growing the fediverse and feddit.uk in general, so I feel quite relaxed about finding the accessibility level for now, but let’s not make it that you need to bring your PhD every time you log in 😉
