I upgraded my S5 to a S8, after finding an unusual deal on ebay. Purchased and open box AW S8 for $270+warranty, which brought it up to $300 even.
When I received the watch, it was still operating on OS 9, but I’ve updated it about 3 days later to 10.1, and it’s been running smooth still. The battery life has been much better than my S5(with AWD turned Off). I think I’ve only charged it to 100% once, and I get a solid 1.5 days out of the watch before it even hits 20%. This is with normal use and workouts included as well.
It seems to have all the features that the S9 has, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it! Anyone else got some feedback they want to provide?
I haven’t gone hiking with it just yet, so I’m ready to see how that will work and do with the battery life.
The only thing I wish the 8 had is the hand gestures the 9 has
I got a brand new series 8 to replace my series 4, only cost me £280 brand new. I usually buy the previous years model of anything to save a good amount of money.
That’s how I do it with my electronics now. No need to pay for the latest and greatest at the high retail prices when last year’s model is still up to speed with the newest.
I own a S8 aluminum. I considered updating to the s9 but while waiting for the released, a great deal I found for a stainless steel S7 Hermes edition. I haven’t worn my S8 since which seals the fact that the s9 wouldn’t have made any marked upgrade value for me. I saved money, got a better build quality and didn’t waste the money on features I never used or wanted. Battery life on my used S7 is 97%. I get all the cool faces and the features I actually want and will use. Hell, even if they added the finger gestures I don’t think I’d use them. I manage a restaurant where all the teens have went to the s9 and outside of showing off the features they never use that feature.
It’s lasting you a day and a half. So you’re still charging it daily, although without the fear it’s about to drain to 0% by the next day. So, if you have battery current to spare, why do you have AOD off? If it’s because you hate the feature, well, that’s a personal preference. But if it’s supposed to be to save on your battery life, what’s the point? AID is not going your way cut your battery life in half. You’ll still have more than enough to the next day, even if you are sleep tracking. I have an S7, gps only too, and I get 23 hours, including tracking my sleep all night and wake up to a battery no lower than 30-35%. I throw it on the charging puck while I go take a shower and have my morning coffee, and in 45 minutes or so have a 100% battery charge all set to repeat the pattern. I have to say, fast charging makes for a big difference on a product that does require daily charging. For you it must seem like that feature alone was worth the upgrade from your S5.
One of the big selling points to me, coming from the analogue watch world, was a requirement for AOD. If I couldn’t discreetly glance down at my wrist to see the time, I never would have gotten it.
I’m happy for you that you like your new watch. It essentially is an S9, and you got a good price on it. The only feedback I’d give is enjoy all the features. You’ll still be charging daily, so take advantage of all the features it offers.
