I am playing Horizon Zero Dawn and haven’t gotten to the first main event, but it gives me this feeling like if I upgrade all my equipment now it might be for nothing. I know that is not the case, I looked it up, but what are some games that are the worst offenders? One I can think of is Aerith in the original FF7.
GTA San Andreas lets you recapture 50+ areas in Los Santos. This takes around six hours.
Its taken away five missions later
Never got too far past that (there’s a mission where you have to control remote control planes I could never beat) but I always wondered if you got to get any of your gang territory back
The mission with the remote control planes is a side mission. Not required for main story.

You can get it all back when you go back to LS later in the story.
Doing all that in 6 hours would be crazy impressive. I spent every day after school for what was probably at least a couple weeks taking over LS only to have it all stripped away, but it only made me that much more vengeful when I came back in the final chapter.
