I feel like my system should be able to rock over 100 FPS no sweat without raytracing and maybe around 60 with it on. No path tracing of course.
However, with everything cranked and 240hz refresh. Im only getting around 50 FPS. And if I turn RT on, im lucky to get 30.
Is the ultra wide and or 240hz refresh bogging it down? What can I do to optimize the visual experience while also achieving a better frame rate
You are trying to push a corvette with a Honda civic SI motor and complaining about the performance. That is the equivalent of your card driving that monitor at native resolution and frequency.
Some things you can check/do that do not involve a ton of time or money to help bridge the gap:
First and foremost, are you using the correct cable? Not all DP and HDMI cables are equal. Get one that is rated for your end goals and get rid of that old cable that came for free with an old monitor 7 years ago. They are still relatively cheap.
With your current setup, if you are running DP, check your monitor settings and see if it is set to 1.1, 1.2, or 1.4. Consider playing around with 1.2 and while in those local settings try dropping it down to half the refresh. Also check the current build number for firmware and bounce that off Samsung’s site for your Odyssey. While on their site go ahead and grab their driver if you haven’t already. Yes, they have a driver for their Odyssey models. Installing new firmware is easy. You just need a small blank USB.
Otherwise? Upscaling is your friend.
I have checked the GPU Hirarchy 2023 at tomshardware. It seems like that the 7800XT does around 60fps in 4k or (Ultrawide in you case). Unfortunately the CP2077 benchmark was done with RayTracing.
So i have rounded the fps when compared to other games.
I have just checked tomshardware GPU charts 2023. It seems like that this is the performance for 4k/UltraWide with this card.
Using FSR or a lower resolution should get you higher fps.
Either get a better card or don’t use ultra wide. I feel like if you’re competent enough to build a pc you should have some understanding of things that effect game performance I mean that’s why you build a beefy pc right?
Play to your computers capabilities, it took my two seconds to find out what other already told you. You are using a 1440p card and trying to run it on a 4K resolution. I play on high to ultra with a gtx 1650 while playing on a 1920x1080 resolution.
Turn off Ray Tracing. Use FSR Quality.
the odyssey is a 32:9, 1440p would either look suuuuuuper shitty stretched or he’d be unable to use half of it lol. maybe 3880x1080 to bridge the gap?
That resolution is like 7.5 million pixels. 4k is like 8.2, you’re expecting way too much from that card for that resolution. Even with a 4090 at native 4k Psycho RT I hit like 40-50FPS, maybe. and 70-80FPS Ultra No RT
And the 7800xt is like 1/3 that performance with RT so. Try using more aggressive upscaling and turning down the settings.
