Apart from The Legend of Zelda games that I played in my childhood, I played Sable over a year ago and it made a huge impact, I still think about it today.
Bioshock. The twist is… well… a shock.

Minecraft satisfied my imagination for years. Too bad the MacBook i originally played on is dead.
May I ask what it was about Sable that affected you so much? I heard it’s coming to the PS subscription and I know nothing about it!
I’m pretty sure, Arma 2 DayZ, Stand alone DayZ then tarkov as well. Gave me PTSD.

The gear fear. I’ll never play a extraction multiplayer shooter again.
I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but it was a climbing game on VR. It wasn’t really all that interesting until I looked down. My brain couldn’t comprehend that it wasn’t something I was actually doing, but rather just a game. I’m super afraid of heights, so my toes went numb and heart started pounding seeing my ‘feet’ precariously perched a few inches from the edge of a cliff. I will never again say “It’s just a game” knowing how easy it is to trick your brain with a game with total immersion.
Myth the Fallen Lords online pvp
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater. The blend of Metal Gear Solid, one of my favorite game franchises, and the James Bond style intro and spy themes was so amazing to me. It was definitely something that influenced my tastes as a kid.
Asheron’s Call.
No shit I was the first person to talk to Asheron. They had a monument permanently in game with a bunch of our server’s players on it because we once kicked all the Devs ass for two weeks. I was weirdly famous in one of the first MMO’s.
I just started this clan by dropping leaflets at lifestones and the next thing I knew I was the biggest monarch in beta. Items never cleared at that point, so the leaflets just sat there greeting new players forever. When we went live, everyone came along from Beta, recruited like crazy, and I had thousands and thousands of followers in a couple of weeks. You got xp from every follower you had, so I was just auto-levelling faster than anyone could grind. I was the highest level player in the world for months.
It was an Everquest and UO competitor so that’s how old we’re talking. The chat was one field, no filters, no dm’s, nothing. I would log on and get 60-70 pages of messages every single day. It was honestly my job for a while. Never been anything that came close to that whole experience for me.
Liar
Final Fantasy 10… the story, characters, SOUNDTRACK, and gameplay simply left a lasting impression me. Still one of my favorites games featuring a hero’s journey, love story, tragedy, friendship, and heroic sacrifice.
Demon’s Souls (ps3).
It showed me that games that aren’t afraid to rip you apart from the inside out, aren’t afraid to exist today.
Hence the soulsbornekiro colloquialism that now includes Elden Ring and the like.
Personally I always loved devastatingly difficult games that had some serious weight and gravity behind their concepts. Which is why I fell in love with Everquest (1999-2003), King’s Field (ps1), Ninja Gaiden Black (Xbox), Devil May Cry (various consoles, entire series except for #2), the souls’ series, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Elden Ring and so on.
The remarkable impact was: I felt like my own tastes in gaming were shared by someone else other than just me. It made me feel good about gaming again.
CONTROL, especially the maze. But the entire game is an amazing trip.
WoW, it never lets you go completely, you always come back. Stupid season of discovery…
It’s still Final Fantasy Tactics for me. One of the best narratives in an FF game coupled with a hugely addictive gameplay system. It gets a replay every other year still.
